Juggling Warm-up (10 mins)

Organization:

Players in Pairs

One Ball

One Net/Line

Instructions:

- Players play soccer tennis.

- Players get 3 touches maximum and 1 bounce (2 bounces for younger or less experienced).

- If the player takes the ball out of the air before any bounce, they are not allowed any bounce(s).

Coaching Points:

- Use of both feet and multiple surfaces

- Can they use other parts of their body to control and set up their play (head, chest, thigh, etc.)

- Weight of shot

- Footwork/movement to anticipate the shot

Main Theme (10 mins)

Organization:

40x60 yard area

Players in pairs (6 pairs = 12 players all in same area - only 2 pairs shown)

1 ball per pair

Instructions:

- Pairs must move throughout the area finding space.

- When pair makes eye contact or form of communication, player must drive a chipped ball over to their partner.

- Receiving partner must try to catch the ball; if they catch it, put it down and go find a new space for their partner to chip the ball. If their partner misses, the partner must retrieve their own ball while their catching partner again finds new space.

Coaching Points:

- Head up to observe space and other players.

- Determine proper angle of approach to chip and drive ball.

- Keep head still and eyes focused on the ball.

- Strike ball appropriately (low).

- Follow through towards target.

Progressions:

- Vary types of service (chip, curled, etc.)

Main Theme II (20 mins)

Organization:

Half field

Practice can be done with 12-18 players

Lots of balls

Instructions:

- A plays to B who receives on back foot and plays to C.

- As ball travels to C player D moves towards and in front of C.

- C sets back foot to D to pass to E.

- Once C sets he makes a run around the pole (or cone) as shown and gets into the box.

- Once D plays to E the run is made to the far post as shown, When E receives the ball he opens up (again on back foot) and crosses the ball for C & D to finish.

- Make sure wide players work with their appropriate forwards.

ROTATION

- A & B move forwards to become the next 2 forwards. .Play now goes to the left to ptayer F.

- Rotate crossers as needed.

Coaching Points:

- Quality of passing

- Good first touch and set up play

- Movement off the ball and timing of runs

- Quality of cross and end product.

Progressions:

- Add defenders in the box.

Conditioned Game (20 mins)

Organization:

Full Field

7v7

Channels on the wide areas as shown

Instructions:

- Regular game, but players in the channels must stay wide.

- Goals worth 2 if scored off a cross and first time finish.

Coaching Points:

- Quality of passing

- Good first touch and set up play

- Movement off the ball and timing of runs

- Quality of cross and end product.

Regressions:

- Opposing defender cannot defend in the channels.

Free Play (10 mins)

Organization:

7v7

Instructions:

- Players split up into 4 teams and play a round robin tournament where all teams play.

Coaching Points:

- 3 Lines of attack, Defender, Midfield, Striker (rotate players)

- Create as much space for player in possession

- Try to create a triangle at all to give good angle of support.

- Look to gaps to attack using Messi touches

- First thought is to go forward then if nothing is on, play back to start again.
