Warm Up (20 mins)

Set up -

45 x 30yards + 5yard end zone at either end.

7 Reds

7 Blues

2 Floaters

Warm Up - 20 minutes

1) Two minutes with ball - Four Balls. Two balls per team. Players pass ball amongst themselves, floaters can play with either team. Encourage passing, dribbling with lots of touches.

2) Five minutes without ball - Dynamics and movements in the grids.

3) Three minutes with ball at a higher tempo - Blues now pass to reds. Once a player has passed the ball, they follow pass to put pressure on player.

4) Two minutes without ball - Short sharp sprints -

4 x 6 yard sprints then back on jog.

4 x jump for header, turn and sprint 6 yards, then back on jog.

4 x 4 yard sprint forward, turn and sprint 6 yards.

4 x 15 yard sprint with twists and turns.

5) 5 Minutes dynamic and static stretching.

Defending

Once server passes ball in to blues, looking for reds to be patient, shuffle as a unit on side passes and try to stop forward passes. The trigger to press is on any backward pass, the team press as a unit to win back.

The other time to press is when the reds give away possession, they work hard for 6 seconds to win back. Then sit back and be patient again

Progression

One player can move into next zone once passed in to create overload.

Also players in possession can rotate from zone to zone but only if the other player vacates the space.

Possession (20 mins)

Set up

45 x 30 yard area with 5 yard end zone at either end.

7 Reds V 7 blues with 2 players at either end as target men or for bounce pass for defenders.

3 red defenders v 2 blue attackers in 2 grids.

2 red midfileders v 2 blue midfielders in middle 2 grids.

2 red attackers v 3 blue defenders in end 2 grids.

Possession Game Rules - Twenty Minutes

To score players must pass from one end zone to the other without other team regaining possession. Once a team achieves this, the target man then passes straight in to opposition and they try to score.

Game 1 - Five Minutes

Players must stay in the their zones. Players in possession can use the target man to bounce the ball off. Looking for defensive team to try and regain possession quickly, knowing when its on to press and when to drop and remain compact.

Game 2 - Five Minutes

Once a pass is played into another zone, one of the players of the team in possession can move into that grid. Once possession is lost, the nearest player has to recover into the zone that has just been vacated. Defenders can not track the players.

Game 3 - Five Minutes

Players can now dribble from one zone to the next so looking for defenders to make it hard for players in possession.

Teams can still pass from zone to zone and still looking for players to join in when the ball has been passed.

One defender can now track their runner. Looking for team to regain shape when possesion is lost.

Game 4 - Five Minutes

Free play. Players can now move anywhere on the pitch.

Still looking for teams to keep the correct shape, knowing when and where to press.

11 Reds in a diamond formation.

10 Blues in a 4-3-3 formation

End Zone - 10 yards long and width of pitch.

Rules - 20 minutes

The blue team are attacking the big goal, the red team once they have won possession can score in either of the two mini goals outside end zone.

The Blue team will only ever have 8 active players on the pitch at any one time.

The Blue team back 4 all start in the end zone, when the left side centre back recieves the ball, the left back can release himself onto pitch along with the left side centre back. The right centre back and right back remain in zone. If play gets switched at any time, the other two defenders must recover back into end zone.

Play starts with one of the centre backs passing to other centre back.

The red team must defend the big goal, looking at keeping shape, knowing when to press and when to sit back. When they regain possession, they can score into mini goals. As soon as they score, the centre back in the end zone starts play again.

Progression after 10 minutes

For red team to score they must dribble on pass to a team mate in the end zone.

Looking for blue Centre Back to start play quickly to see how reds react when out of shape.
