Warm Up-Passing Pattern (15 mins)

Setup:

6 cones layed out as shown.

Players on each cone (line behind 9 and 6)

Activity:

Patterh 1: 6->8->6->7; 9->10->9->11

CP: 6 - create angle to receive back from 8; 7 - Lose marker by working backwards away from defender

Pattern 2: Same but other direction

Pattern 3: Add in wall pass with CM: 6->8->6->7->6->7

CP: 8 - Timing and angle of wall pass (higher up field for better angle); 7 - lose marker by moving up field and then checking back to ball

Pattern 4: Long pass to #10: 6->8->6->10->8->7

Zonal Game (30 mins)

Setup:

Field divided into thirds as shown.

2 teams of 7 plus GKs

Activity:

10 balls (5 for each team) to try to score.

Team in possession maintains possession until they can play into #9. Once ball is played in to #9 play is live to goal.

Defensive team's #7/11 must step off field when other team begins play.

Coaching Points:

~Using the entire space in midfield -- width and depth -- to maintain possession

~#9 creating space by playing off defenders back shoulder (timing to avoid offsides)

~#10 working underneath #9 for lay off after penetrating pass

5v2 with center goal (20 mins)

Intervals:

6-8 games of 2 minutes length (very high intensity for 2 defenders so games need to be short)

Setup:

20x20 grid with center goal as shown

5 attackers vs. 2 defenders

Activity:

Team of 5 attackers scores by getting ball through the center goal either thrown CM or directly across.

Defenders score in goal behind one of the endlines.

Coaching Points:

~Check shoulder as ball travels. Can I play centrally quickly?

~CM receiving on half-turn

Setup:

40x70 grid (simulate midfield)

Center goal of 10x10 in middle

2 teams of 5 plus 3 neutrals

Activity:

Team in possession scores by getting ball through center zone (either passing through or getting into CM and back out)

Coaching Points:

~7/11 getting wide to create space

~6/10 moving opposite of endline neutral

~CM receiving on half-turn with far foot in order to get away from pressure
