Warm Up / SAQ

Warm Up / SAQ

Organization: teams will be broken into two with one ball per team. They will pass and move within a grid 20x20 decided by a half way line. When the coach yells "time" players will leave the ball and head to one of the four SAQ stations.

Activity:

Teams are not under any pressure but the space will be tight because other teams are looking to accomplish the same tasks from the drill. When ready one team member will play a pass through to his/her teammate entering the other side of the grid.

SAQ - Make sure you hit all four SAQ stations and not go to the same one every time.

Coaching Points:

1. Keep your head up and put the proper weight on your pass when playing into space.

2. Be aware of where the other teams are so you can play into the space where teams are not.

Organization: Gird size 40LX20W. Each of the four channels is 10 yards long by 20 wide. Each team will have one ball to play between themselves.

Activity:

Teams are looking to play around the other team much like the first drill. The players are looking for angels and open passing lanes to compete high percentage passes. No pressure still.

Coaching Points:

1. Keep the ball moving. Try to play 2 touches 3 at the most.

2. If there is no pass on forward you will always have your teammate in the same channel as you.

3. Try not pass in straight lines. Get out from behind defenders giving your teammates a good passing lane.

Organization: 6v2 in a grid 20x20 with two small goals.

Activity:

Players on the attacking team, the ones trying to keep possession need to move in and out of the four boxes inside the grid offering new angles and passing lanes for their teammates. If the defenders win the ball they are trying to score on either of the two small goals.

Coaching Points:

1. Always move into a new space when connecting a pass. Leave a space some one else can fill it.

2. Offer support both in front and behind.

3. Make good decisions when on the ball. Don't turn the ball over cheaply.

Organization: 2v1 in your own defensive half and 2v2 in the attacking half.

Activity:

The team attacking the full size goal is trying to advance the ball higher up the field while maintaining high numbers and options around the ball for teammates. Players 2v2 in the attacking half do not need to force the shot or pass. We can always play back and maintain possession.

Coaching Point:

1. Be patient

2. Wait for the defenders to lose their marks then attack the space trying to get in behind.

3. Take advantage of your opportunities.

4. Be careful committing too many numbers forward because you will be open to the counter attack.

Organization: Full game 4v4 to small goals.

Activity:

1v1 in both the attacking and defensive third for both teams and matched up 2v2 in the middle third.

Coaching Points: 1. There are no restrictions as to where you have to pass the ball so the middle channels should always have support in their own third and back as well as forward.
