Description

Although the session was totally based around SSG, we still used the games to coach the principles of what we have been working on over the season but with very few interventions.

Game 1 (30 mins)

Used as a warm up for the practice.

The keepers are used as target/support players.

The floater can go into any zone.

The game starts with the keeper, who plays in to the nearest zone. Once he has played in he can also step in to support.

The ball MUST go through the thirds. Work the ball into the final third and then try to find the keeper.

Keeper restarts by feeding the opposite team.

PROGRESSIONS

Players rotate up a zone so they experience the game from different positions 1 to 2 to 3 to 1.

If the ball has been played forward, it can be set back for a longer pass into the end zone (1 to 2 to 1 to 3).

Possession game where the teams score by passing the ball through the poles for a team mate to control beyond the end line.

PROGRESSIONS

A goal can also be scored by a player taking the ball through the poles with his first touch and "killing" it with his second.

A goal can be scored by dribbling through the poles.

Game 3 (30 mins)

Wingers v Counter Attackers

The reds must have a player in the wide areas at all times and their attacks must visit a wide area before a shot. Players can play into the wide men and overlap (2 in wide area) or play in and allow the wide player to drive inside. The blues can not go into the wide areas.

The reds are looking to play wide and finish or create from crosses and defend outnumbered.

The blues are looking to defend wide play and counter attack through central areas.
