Warm up - Dynamic (15 mins)

Organization:

Five cones. First section = 12 yards, second section = 10 yards, third section - 12 yards

Players in two lines either side of cones

Instructions:

Jogging x3

Flicks & Knees Up

Groin stretch, w/twist

Side groin stretch

Open and close the gate

Walk and pull knees up alternately - Quad stretch;

Inside foot pull up while walking;

Hamstring stretch

Skips –alternate arms and twists

50%/75%/100% run.

Static stretches – Achilles, Gluteus

Coaching Points:

First exercise done in section 1 then walk for 10 yards then second exercise in section 3 then always jog back.

Warm up - Pass and Move (15 mins)

Organization:

14/16 players in a 50x30 yard grid as shown. Squad split into two teams of 7/8 players (Red and Yellow as shown). 7/8 balls for 14/16 players.

Instructions:

Players move freely around the playing area interpassing.

Coaching Points:

Body shape to receive the ball.

Side-ways on at all times.

First touch must be sharp.

Accuracy and weight of passing.

Visual cues/Communication.

Progressions:

Players only pass to players wearing an opposite color.

Players are encouraged to use combinations - wall pass.

Play game silently- forces players to scan the playing area for passing options.

2v2/3v3 + 4 (20 mins)

Organization:

30x30 area, players in two teams.

Instructions:

Teams compete to keep possession of the ball for set time.(Rotate often due to intensity)

Each team in the area has four ‘Bumper’ players around the outside of the box.

Possession team use outside players for ‘Wall Pass’ and outlet when under pressure.

Coaching Points

Quality of pass/first touch

Support Angles.

Play the way you face if possible

Communication

Ensure ‘Bumpers’ move to make good angles

Progressions:

Every second pass must go to ‘Bumper’ Player.

Allow ‘Bumpers’ to play pass to another ‘Bumper’ before playing inside area.

5v5+2 /5v5+4 Combination Play (20 mins)

Organization:

A 5v5 is organized inside a 20x35 or 30x40 area with end zones. Two “floaters” are positioned on the outside of the area.

Instructions:

Both teams compete for possession of ball and can use the floaters outside of the field at any time.

Floaters limited to 2-touch.

Points are scored by successfully dribbling into either end-zone.

Scoring team retains possession and immediately attacks the opposite end.

Play is continuous for the designated period of time. (Rotate 'Floaters')

Coaching Points:

Sharp, crisp passing is essential.

Movement off-the-ball must be constant.

Angles and distance of support.

Communication.

Transition.

Progressions:

Add target players to each end-zone.

Points awarded for passing to a target player.

Receive a return pass then dribbling into the end-zone.

Target players are restricted to 1 or 2 touch (depending on ability)

Shooting v Possession (25 mins)

Organization:

Players in 8v8/6v6, Area size of two 18 yard boxes. Use a full size goal and an intermediate goal or poles.

Instructions:

Each team has different objectives. Black team plays across field to team targets

Yellow tries to score on either goal using ‘bumper’ players either side of each goal. (Must pass to bumpers before shooting)

Limit support players to two/one touch.

Change roles after 4 mins.

Coaching Points:

Quality pass/first touch

Work hard to win ball as team

Get into shooting positions early

Maintain possession

Communication

Progressions:

Play with teams’ bumpers at one end with two of each outside

Play half field with bumpers by goals only

Lift restrictions and play half field
