Warmup (10 mins)

Organization:

12 players

6 groups of 2

Setup as shown

Instructions:

- 1 minute rounds

-Winner moves up, loser moves down grid

-Players get a point if they are able to tag their opponents knee

Coaching Points:

- Bend knees to allow better mobility

- Stay low to ground

- Quick feet (moving on the balls of our feet)

- Quick movements

Technical (15 mins)

Organization:

12 players ( 6 white, 6 Blue)

Players work in pairs, set up as shown

1 ball per pair

Instructions:

Players work in groups of two

Passing the ball to each other

On the 3rd pass one of the players stops the ball with the sole of their foot the other player must close that side down

Pressing player then returns to their starting position the group start to pass again

Coaching Points:

Speed of approach

Body Shape

Angle of approach

Where to be relative to attacker

Progressions:

Attacking player dribbles as the defender now jockeys

Defending player can look to toe poke away if attackers touch is out of their body

1v1 (15 mins)

Organization:

Channels with center goal in each

4 players in each channel - 2 at either end

One group of two with ball

Instructions:

Player stating with ball makes pass across to attacker

On pass or attackers first touch defender can go and close down

Defender get a point for forcing attacker out & can score by winning ball and scoring in goal

Attackers are trying to score in the goal

Coaching Points:

Use side line as second defender

Patient when defending

Fake tackle

Shifting weight when tackling

Visual Cues for when to tackle

Distance

Angle of run and body shape based on attacker and where he is relative to the goal
