Ball Control Technique Practice:

Organisation:

2 teams of 4 players Red and Blues, 1 ball per team, half junior pitch divided in 3 sections with 2 end boxes on each end

Practice:

The ball is played from 1 side of the pitch to the end boxes on the other end (movement A and C) but has to go through the middle area player (movement B).

The ball only can be played back again to the opposite side after been played to the 2 end boxes in 1 side (movement D)

Key Factors:

•Observer/recognise options

•Select surface

•Adjust body/ Address the ball

•First touch: should I release, move off the line, travel with the ball, protect the ball

Progression:

•Free ball control

•Use different parts of the body to control the ball (knee, chest, head, etc)

Ball Control Skill Practice:

Organisation:

Same setup as the Technique this time place 2 blue players as target players 1 in each end of the pitch(as per diagram), 4 Reds vs 2 Blues playing on the inside of the pitch, 1 ball in play

Practice:

Reds seek to play into 1 of the end boxes before returning through the middle area. If Blues gain possession, Blues goal is to play to either end player (Target player on the diagram) who makes a move into the end box to score

Key Factors:

•Observer/recognise options

•Select surface

•Adjust body/ Address the ball

•First touch: should I release, move off the line, travel with the ball, protect the ball

Progression:

•Free ball control

•Reduce touches

•Time how quick the team can transport the ball from 1 side to the other and score

•Make every player have a touch at the ball before scoring

•Use different parts of the body to control the ball (knee, chest, head, etc)

Organisation:

2 team of 4 players with 4 corners as scoring end boxes

Practice:

Play into either scoring end boxes so a team mate can score. Team scoring keeps possession and targets another end box
