Warm up I (10 mins)

Organization:

Have 2 or 3 lines depending on the numbers

Instructions:

Have the players do a dynamic warm up that include heel, high knees, open the gate, close the gate and other warm ups that will get them going for the session

Coaching Points:

Make sure that everyone is doing the warm up 100 percent and is concentrated on the session

Warmp up II (20 mins)

Organization: Have 3 teams of 4 or equal number (minimum 3). 14 cones and plenty of balls on the side line

Instructions:

The team in the middle will be the defending team. The other two teams will be the offense. The offense will pass the ball in their grid without real confrontation of the defending team. The offense will attempt to pass the ball between the defending team to the other team. If the offense is successful the offense will get a point. If the defense were to intercept the ball that will be a point for them.

Each team will get 5 mins in the middle.

-Individual positioning of defending

-proper defensive stance

-angle of approach

-communication

-triangle shape defending

3v3 at goal (2 wide) (10 mins)

Organization:

In a 25x30

two goals at wide

Instructions:

3v3 at goal. The defending team will have a pressure cover balance system that will block passing lanes as well give cover to cover the wide goals. If the defending team gets the ball they are now offense and attack the goal. In the defending team, we will want them to drop and get into a defensive formation that will alllow the pressure cover system to be apply.

Coaching Points:

-have good defensive shape

-have the triangle shape to have Pressure cover balance

-angle of approach from first defender

-communication

-be first to pressure

-if the pressurer is beaten then he/she must drop right away and assume another defensive position such as balance or cover

3 goal game (20 mins)

Organization:

4v4 or equal number of players. 3 goals in a

Instructions:

In this conditioned game. The teams will be able to score on 3 goals. The team in possession of the ball will go ahead and try to penetrate the defending team with passes or on the dribble. The defending team needs to have good shape in terms of the Pressure/cover/balance. As soon as the defending team intercepts the ball they will now transition into offense and try to score.

Coaching Points:

-Defensive shape (triangle shape)

-communication

-movement of the unit

-proper stance on 1v1

-attitude

-angle of support and approach

Progressions:

-have limited touches on the ball

-10 passes can equal a point

Free play (30 mins)

Organization:

5v5 or equal number of players in a team. Field space is depending on your area, but make it big enough to have good movement. Prefarably 30x40

Instructions:

5v5 game at goal no restrictions

Coaching Points:

-Same as previous exercise, but let the team play on their own to observe if the team understood the concept of the training. Make stoppages that relate to the defensive side. You could go ahead and correct the offense to show the defense what sign they should look for when they set up. This will give game like scenarios that will make players think.
