Set up

This is a short corner NOT a quick corner. The Idea is to test your opponents tactical awareness, and it also drags people away from their jobs.

Players A and B set up facing play. opposition 1 has to be 10 yards away and this gives the players time. There are three possible outcomes to the corner.

Option 1 shot

Option 1.

Player A pushes the ball to player B and makes a fast run around player B into a receiving position. Create a 2v1 against opposition 1. Player A dribbles towards opposition 1 to commit him to either him or player B. When opposition 1 is commited player A passes to player B with a good pass in front of him, Player B takes a touch to settle himself and then has a shot which is across the goalkeeper, the players within the box are lively and are anticipating a rebound/save. The player in front of the keeper blocks his view of the shot.

Option 2 dribble and pass

Option 2.

Player A pushes the ball to player B and makes a fast run around player B into a receiving position. Create a 2v1 against opposition 1. Player A dribbles towards opposition 1 to commit him to either him or player B. When opposition 1 is commited player B player A shapes to pass to player B and drags the ball with the instep and drives inside the box, this is the trigger for the players within the box to make their movement for a cut back pass. Player A chooses the best option for a cutback or even sneak the ball in at the near post. As before players are lively anticipating rebounds/saves.

Option 3 Long corner

Option 3.

This is if the opposition bring out 2 defenders to cover the 2v1 situation (they are tactically aware) set positions for practiced long corner routine. dont risk a 2v2 situation.

In this situation the "hole" player may be dragged out to stop the short corner, the corner taker should be coached to detect whether this player has left his position, the back post player should make a movement away and then back in to attack the near post to head at goal leaving the defender always a yard behind him. Timing of the run and quality delivery of the ball are essential.
