Finishing from crosses drill (20 mins)

Instructions

Crossing and Finishing drill.

Ball starts with wide player who passes into middle player before setting off for the return pass.

Wide player takes a touch before crossing (or can cross first time).

Points

Timing of run.

Head up to know where to play to.

Striker runs - away from ball before a sharp run infront of defender to attack near post.

Midfielder - after playing return pass to wide player, make supporting run to edge of box for a possible cut back.

Finishing points

Follow the ball all the way onto surface of body - head, chest, thigh, volley, shot.

SSG (25 mins)

Instructions

Crossing and Finishing SSG.

5v5 in the middle with two wide neutral players.

Ball must go wide and be crossed before it can go to goal.

Green lines are just for striker reference (width of goalposts), players can move anywhere inside red lines.

Points

Timing of run - when ball is played wide, striker goes away from ball as wide player takes touch, then as wide player winds up, striker makes movement to near post (probably outside of the width of the goalposts) as that is an area that the defenders are not taught to mark.

Communication - strikers talk to switch up runs and become unpredictable, making them hard to mark.
