Skill intro

Core Skill: 1st touch

Specific Aspect: Ability to face forward

Key Principal: Individual Skill

I Aim to improve: the players ability to take there 1st touch facing forward when in BP

Player Tasks:

-Player to check off the defender to create time and space.

-Use COD and COP.

-COD to turn defender around.

-Body position to face forward.

-Release the ball quickly once you have the defender beaten or head towards space/goals

Organisation:

- Grid size 15m x 15m

- 8 x Blue and 2 x Red (10 players max)

Explanation:

-BLUE plays a pass to wide Blue player.

-#6 recieves the ball and plays to the #9

-#9 plays the ball to the #8. Central player needs to focus on body position to play forward.

-Players follow pass.

Step up/Down:

-Reduce the grid size for intencity.

-Make it tighter with short crisp passing.

Progression A:

-1/4 pitch with realistic passing out from the back 3rd.

-Still focus on players body position facing forward.

-Any combination from #3 to #9.

- Finsh off with shot on target. Follow the pass.

Step up/down:

- Add in passive defender (1 or 2). Keep the movement forward.

Players to evaluate themselves on 5 key Qualities we look for in a player.

Skill Training

Organisation:

-Grid size 30m x40m

- 3 x Red and 3 x Blue & 2 Netural x bouncers netural (#9)

Explanation:

-BLUE starts play. 3 v 3 or 4 v 4 based on numbers.

-RED defend until they get the ball.

-If RED wins the ball they play the closest NETURAL bouncer.

-Try to play forward, positive.

Player Tasks:

-Player to check off the defender to create time and space.

-Use COD and COP.

-COD to turn defender around.

-Body position to face forward.

-Release the ball quickly once you have the defender beaten or head towards space/goals

Step up/Down:

-Reduce the grid size, make it tighter or increase to create success for the attackers.

-Less defenders.

Skill Game (30 mins)

Organization:

- Full pitch 60m x 45m

-8v8 (2 x GK)

Explanation:

-Play starts with RED GK playing out from the back.

-Alternatively play can start from a throw-in.

Rules:

-Be positive and hit the #9 as quick as possible.

-Normal rules.

Coaching Cues:

-Playing out from the back, can we use the passing pattern from the start of the session.

- Body position to recieve the ball facing forward.

-Change of speed and change of direction

-Keeping the ball out of tackling range of the opponent i.e. 1 big step from their feet (u/10 to u/14)

-Take the opponent one way to create space and suddenly accelerate back into the space you created

-PROACTIVE, -creating or controlling a situation rather than just responding to it after it has happen.

-DOMINATE -have power and influence over

-INTELLIGENT, -able to vary it's state or action in response to varying situations and past experience.
