Tech. WU (20 mins)

Tech. Warm Up

Setup:

Cones setup as shown.

4 lines (1 line for each position in back four)

Activity:

1) 4 players come out from lines and coach serves 3 balls in. Player receives and plays back in two touches and other players move to cover/balance positions behind ball.

2) Progress to remove inner cones and use outer cones. Add goalkeeper and work in bigger space.

3) Progress to playing longer balls to 2nd coach.

After the 3 balls have been played, players jog around outside cones and perform dynamic movements back.

1v1 Sprints with Minimum Rest (15 mins)

Intervals:

10x15m sprint with 10 seconds rest between sprints

Setup:

2 goals about 35 yards apart

Players partnered up with someone who is about their speed.

Cones/flags about 16 yards away (goal is for the players to complete a 16 yard sprint and then shoot on goal)

No GKs since too many balls in play.

Activity:

One pair works while the other passes the balls.

A set consists of 10 sprints with 10 seconds rest between. Each pair will do 2 sets (and rest while other pair works).

Compete to see who scores the most goals (Optional: Goals only count if hit the net in the air)

Intervals:

1.5 min work + 1 min rest x 3 games = 7.5 min

4 min rest

Setup:

20x15 grid (longer than wide)

Two teams of 4 (3v3 plus 2 neutrals)

Activity:

Team in possession scores by connecting both target players.

When a team wins possession, they should play to easiest target and then the game becomes directional to other target. 

Coaching Points:

~ Defending priorities: 1) pressure on ball ASAP (make predictable) 2) cover on ball line between ball and goal (target) 3) Next most dangerous space

Intervals:

5 min work + 1 min rest x 4 games = 24 min

Setup:

Half field (field should be shrunk a little to be 65 yards wide)

3 Teams of 6:

2 teams in 1-4-2 formation play while the 3rd works on 1v1s.

Balls behind each GK.

Activity:

1) Teams score by passing ball into GK feet.

2) Teams score by passing ball into GK hands (or feet).

Coaching Points:

~Cues of when to step: bouncing ball, backward pass

~Don't let player on ball turn to face forward

~Back four squeezing together to deny penetrating pass

~Reading cues of when to drop: time & space on ball, head up, approaching ball to strike

~Open body shape of back four - see ball and player

Setup:

20x10 grid with 2 pugg goals setup as shown.

Activity:

1v1 with defender in front --> replicate outside back receiving ball with pressing winger

Attacker can score in either pugg goal.

Defender tries to win ball and dribble out of box.

Coaching Points:

~ Can I score quickly if defender doesn't defend goal?

~ Can I show an early shot and then cut inside?

10v11 2/3 field (30 mins)

Setup:

Half field with 3 counter goals for defending team.

Defensive team in 1-4-2.

Attacking team in 2-3-3

Activity:

Balls alternate starting positions: goal kick for def., free kick for attack, throw in.

When in possession, attacking team has 8 players. Out of possession the 2 outside backs drop back in gates (no defense).

Coaching Point:

~Deny central penetration

~Marking position: ball-side, goal-side

~Stepping up when possible: "when ball goes up, we go up"

~GK protecting space behind back four

Progression:

+Outside backs always in (8v7)
