Preseason Session #2 "Small Sided Defending: Pressure/Cover/Balance" 7/30/15

-You have introduce the concept of Pressure, cover, and balance. The 1st defneder presses on the ball, the 2nd defender

immediately provides support, and the 3rd defender is the balancing player

-Defending is a science

-Numbers Down: Dely

Numbers Even: Deny

Numbers Up: Destory

-Compactness, and squeezing the ball into "pockets" in order to win the ball back quickly

SI Technical Warmup Triangle Passing (10 mins)

SI Technical Warmup "Triangle Passing"

-Pairs of two pass around the triangle of cones

-12 players, equals 6 triangles

-5 yds between the cones

-Players working go for :30 Seconds

A

-Working player sprints to cone 1. Passer spilts cones, and then reciever plays 2 touch back to passer and then goes around to cone 3 to recieve 2nd pass

-Progression: 2 touch R and L

B

-Working player sprints to cone 1, plays the ball back, spins around and looks for spilt btwn cones 2 and 3. Plays ball back around 2 and goes again

C

- Reciever starts on cone 3, sprints to cone 1 where the passer plays ball to the cone! Recieving player hits the ball back 1 touch and back pedals to cone 3 to start the process over again at cone 2

D

-Passer has the ball in their hands and tosses to cones 1 and 2

-Reciever plays the ball back to the passer without the ball hitting the ground

- Shuffling btwn the cones

-Feet/feet, thigh/foot, chest/foot, double touches w/ laces, side volley, double heads

SII Small Sided 3v3v3 (15 mins)

SII Small Sided "3v3v3"

- One team starts in the middle and the other two teams attempt to keep possession

-If a team loses possession the team that lost becomes the defending team (Becomes 6v3)

-If the defending team kicks the ball out then they still remain in the middle. Possession must be won.

-Upon winning possession the team must transition by playing to one player on their own team or to a player on the team that did not lose the ball

Coaching Points:

-Long Pass

-Dwelling on the Ball – Space is Limited

-Back to the Play

-Immediate Chase & Delay

-Body position sideways on, knees bent

-Cover, don’t be flat

SIII Expanded Small sided Activity Functional 4v4 (15 mins)

Stage III Expanded Small Activity "4v4 Defending"

-1/3 of the field going towards a big goal

-4v4

-4 defenders must start on the cone before getting into defensive shape

-The attacking team(Blue) must begin with a pattern and then can play free

-3 plays the ball to 4, and then overlaps. 1 makes a digonal run and 2 overlaps that player

-Two CMs join attack to create a 6v4

Coaching Points:

-You have introduce the concept of Pressure, cover, and balance. The 1st defneder presses on the ball, the 2nd defender immediately provides support, and the 3rd defender is the balancing player

Progression:

-4v4 (3 defenders and a CM)

-6v4 (Adding in two offesenive CMs)

-6v6
