1ST TOUCH PRACTISE

Organisation

4 manequins, or can use 4 poles, or 4 cones

can either do the drill in groups of 2 (if you have the equipment) or in 2 lines if you have a large group

START OF DRILL

The drill starts off with player on the left passing through the manequins to his team mate on the opposite side.....once he has passed it, he will follow his pass on the outside of the cones (if 2 lines of players....if in groups of 2 he would stay there)

KEY POINT - increase the accuracy of passing, the ball must be passed into the path of the player opposite through the manequins.

THE DRILL

As the player recieves it, he must open his body and use his 1st touch to play it away from either manequin (depending on his strong foot, most players will go right) the 1st touch is crucial and the reason the cones are there will be explained. The cones are a passing lane, so the 1st touch ideally should be used to cushion the ball into the passing lane accordinly! once the 1st touch is out of the manequin and into the passing lane, he will pass it through the manequins to the opposite player......and the drill will continue as such

VARIATIONS

inside of foot

outside of foot

weaker foot

opposite foot (1st touch main foot, pass weaker foot)

side roll control (PROGRESSION)

sole of the foot (PROGRESSION)

around the manequin (PROGRESSION)

reverse around the manequin (PROGRESSION)

Add a turn after the 1st touch (PROGRESSION)
