Warm Up (10 mins)

Organization :

1. 25 x 25 yard area setup as shown

2. 10 Players (5 Attackers,5 Feeders)

3. 5 Balls

Instructions:

1. Every Attacker dribbles a ball around the area

2. Feeders move around the area without a ball

3. Attacker passes to a feeder that is open

4. The feeder then passes ball back to attacker they received the ball from

5. Attacker then looks for another feeder to pass to

6. In turn feeders should look for another attacker to receive from

Coaching Points:

1. Head up,observe your target

2. Weight and accuracy of pass

3. Disguise your pass

Progression:

With each pass, alternate which foot you pass with (right, left, right, left...)

Receiving through gates (20 mins)

Organization:

25yd x 25yd. Players pair up with one ball

Have 2 yd gates set up on the field. Have 1 more gate than there are pairs

Instructions:

Objective is to dribble as partners to the gates which are set up. If they complete 3 passes through gate whilst working on receiving, then they move on. 2 touch max when passingreceiving.

1) Receive and turn with the INSIDE foot and dribble to another gate. 1 min pass only with your right foot, how many gates can you get to? 1 min pass only with your left foot, how many gates can you get to?

2) Receive and turn with the OUTSIDE foot and dribble to another gate. 1 min pass only with your right foot, how many gates can you get to? 1 min pass only with your left foot, how many gates can you get to?

Coaching Points: 

1) Pass with the inside of your foot swinging right to your target

2) Supporting foot is next to the ball, toe pointed at your target

3) When passing with only one foot, can you use the opposite foot to take a touch and set up the return pass? (If you need to pass with your left and you received with your right, use your right foot touch to set up the return kick with your left) 

4) The receiving touch of the third pass should be out away from the gate and towards an open gate or space. 

5) Look around you (over your shoulder) and try to spot next gate to explode to before the 3rd pass is made to you.

Progression:

1) Remove extra gate(s) and have players 1 touch only. (Same number of gates as there are pairs)

2) No restrictions on right-left foot. Add a floating defender that tries to take the ball away (not kick it away). Attackers must recover the ball, then defender finds another pair to take the ball away from. Attackers work together to maintain possession and discourage defender (force him to go to another group).

Passing and Receving (20 mins)

Organization: 

5 on outside, 5 on inside. Adapting on numbers, long as we can even up players on outside and inside. If odd number, extra player should be on the outside. Outside players have a ball.

Instructions:

Players located on inside's job is to demand ball from anyone on the outside who has the ball free. They receive, perform skill asked by coach, then pass back, and go repeat skill/

Working for 2 minutes non stop on each rotation. Working on several aspects of controlling and passing. Inside players will perform 5 different methods during the drill:

1) 3 Touch (Inside, Outside, Pass)

2) 2 Touch (Inside, Pass)

3) 2 Touch (Outside, Pass)

4) 1 Touch (looking to pass back)

5) Any of above, must encourage change.

Coaching Points:

1) When playing 3 touch, they must take ball one way with inside then immediately shift direction to outside to create a disguise. 

2) With 2 touch, the inside touch must come across body in order to take one step to pass back to partner.  

3) Make eye contact with your targets so you know they're ready for the pass

4) Proper technique: Pass with the inside foot, swinging kick foot right to your target

Progressions:

1) Instead of playing back to partner, could work on turning out and playing to a free player on the outside. Again, only if they can perform the above!

2) Play Rondo. 3 blue v 3 red in the middle with 4 yellow bounce players on the outside. Stringing 4 passes = 1 pt. Only the field player's passes to each other counts (bounce players are there to help maintain posession) First team to 2 points wins and stays on the field. Bounce players switch with losers.

Free Play (25 mins)

Organization: Shape to create width and length.

Instructions: None too specific. Let the group play.

Coaching Points: Encourage general posession and receiving. Try keep in with theme of the session.

Progressions: None, let group have fun.
