Skill Intro (15 mins)

Core Skill: Passing and Striking.

Specific Aspect: I aim to improve the players ability to strike a ball with the laces.

Key Principle: Individual Skill

Player Task:

-Recieve the ball facing forward.

-Plant one foot firmly on the ground ans strike through the ball with the laces showing.

-Ball speed and accuracy.

-Be confident with short back lift.

-Get the body behind the ball to receive facing. Body position.

-Communication

Organization:

-40m x 40m

-The split team into two lots of 8 players. 2 Player always in the middle.

Explanation:

-Ball start at either end, position #1 or #3.

-Passes the ball to the player in the middle. Facing forward plays to wide player.-

The pattern continues.

Step up/down:

-Change the direction

-Increase/decrease passing distance

-Add in defender in each quarter to create passive pressure.

Progression B (15 mins)

Progression B:

-Add in 2 extra players on the orange cones.

-Change the pattern so the wide play must pass to the opposite.

-Still using laces.

Skill Training (20 mins)

Organisation:

-20m x 30m box with 1 full size goal.

-12 players mximum per grid.

- 3 stations

Explanation:

-Ball starts with player on the by line next to GK. Pass in made to station A. Player passing the ball provide passive resistance.

-Player at A takes the shot and then turns to support station B for the wall pass.

-Player from B has the shot and then turns to become a 1v1 with Station C.

-Player C has his/her shot then proceed around the back of the goals to restart the pattern.

-Cycle through left hand side and swap across to the left, encourage player shooting to use both feet.

Note: Technique is critical in the attacking 3rd or any goal scoring position.

Focus on specific aspect. (Shooting either foot)

-Can the player use different part of the foot to achieve the desired result?

Step down:

Focus on the striking component. Take the ball mastery element away should the shots on target decrease in accuracy. It a warm up.

Step Up:

Reduce the distance by starting closer the 18 yards box. Add a defender in Station "B" Once the attacking player has passed the defender, the defender can apply pressure from behind. Same goes for station "C"

Player Actions:

-Be confident and take the shot regardless of which foot.

-Know where the keeper is and where you want to place it.

-Locking the foot when striking through the ball.

Coaches Que:

Once you have beaten the defender, can you get your head up scan to see where the keeper is and get a shot on target?

-Can you hit through the ball left or right foot regardless?

Skill Game (25 mins)

Organization:

-2 goals.

-Spare balls at either end.

-3 Red vs 3 Blue in middle zone. OP 4 v 4 depending on numbers.

-1v1 in the end zones.

-JOKER if required.

Explanation:

-3 Red vs 3 Blue in middle zone.

-Play starts from GK. 3 v 3 or 4 v 4 in the middle zone.

-Only 1 attacking player can move into the striking zone.

Rules:

-All players must touch the ball before shot on target.

-Minimum completed passes before shot.

-Must play both wide players

-Time limit.

-A shot can only be struck with the laces.

*Can we turn the defenders on our backs?

*Can we then hit the Blue attacker in the opposite end zone who has to try turn the last defender and shoot into either goal for a point.

-Play now starts from this end and Red are attacking with the defender moving or (a joker) on their team now.

Make it a fast paced game and encourage session learning's on the run.

Coaching cue’s:

-Can we face forward to play the pass.

-Know where the goals are before you receive.

-Try to create space for yourself before/as you receive.

-Remeber to take a short back lift when striking the ball with the laces. Point your toe in the direction of the target..

-Use COP and COD.

-Take the shot early.

Remember, Skill Game is on the run only!
