Passing & Receiving (20 mins)

Passing & Receiving Technical Warm-up.

Set-up:35x25 Yard Grid; 12 players, 6 balls

Progressions: Perform for 90 seconds and switch groups.

1) Black players receive pass from blue players and pass to another free blue player. Once complete the black player finds another blue player with a ball and repeats. Swap roles.

2) Same as 1 but can you play with two touches? But only if you can (this encourages player vision and 'peaking'.Swap roles

3) Players receive square on, then set back to server, then move to create an open body position to receive and find other server. Swap roles

4) Balls start in the middle and now players alternate between passers and receivers. When central players passes to outside player he will instruct for a wall-pass with her, or "take" (become central player). If outside player takes it, the passer looks for a free space anywhere around the grid.

Coaching points: Peak, receive at an angle with hips open and ball across body.

Communicate to person you're passing to with verbal and non-verbal cues (don't think that they can just call a name and expect them to be open if they haven't looked up; players who miss it pass or don't call name ) knees bent, arms out away from body,

Scoring: How many times can you receive the ball and pass correctly?

Challenges / Questions for Players:

When you receive a pass, can you position your body so you can see most of the field?

Can servers pass ball to receivers back foot (across the body)?

Can you complete exercise using two touches? But only if you can (this encourages player vision and 'peaking') advanced players may even

- Losing team has fitness

Coaching Points: How can you be successful in the game? Peak, why? So you know who is open. When your teammate has the ball what should you do?

6v6/4v4's/8v8's Game (25 mins)

6v6 Game for GU9&GU10's. 8v8 for U11's. (30 minutes)

Scoring: 1) Players get one point if they score on goal, 2) if they switch the ball from one end to the other.

Things to Teach:

Throw-ins - Closest Outside back takes it. Closest forward

Coaching points:

Offensive team needs to have their forwards wide in their own half and they can start coming in the offensive half.

Important we teach them our number system and formation. We play a GK-2-1-2. With two defenders, one CM and two forwards.

Make sure you give them set positions.

Let's create 3 channels to naturally give them width.

2-10/15 minute halves.
