Description

Objective of session to to allow for players to be creative through various sessions incorporating the technical and physical attributes needed. The drills are designed to be fun and competitive.

Warm-up (10 mins)

Organization:

- 20x20 grid, larger where more players are attending.

- each player has a ball and is dribbling within the area.

- lots of touches on the ball (use left / right foot)

a) use inside and outside of foot

b) tick-toks, toe-taps

- change of direction and speed (do not go in circles)

Quick Feet:

- one coach per set of cones.

- hops (single/double legs), side-to-side, in & out

Ball Mastery Box (10 mins)

Organization:

- make a 20 x 20 yard grid, smaller if less players

- divide the group into 2 groups

- session starts with 4-5 players within the box with a ball. All other players outside do not have a ball.

- each player that dribbles into the box must make a move within the box and then exit to find an outside player waiting for the ball.

Progressions:

- use different types of cuts (inside, outiside, pull-backs, Ronaldo chop_

- use of both feet

- pass to outside player

Coaching Points:

- change of speed once they make their move.

- keep the ball close at all times

- head up once move is made in the box to find outside player

- lots of creativity

- don't wait for defender to get close, keep moving the ball and finding space to support (angles)

Shooting (Un-opposed) (10 mins)

Organization:

- make a 30 x 25 yard grid and split it in half

- divide the group into 2 equal teams of 4 - no GK required

- players will attack the front cones with speed and then make a move to go around them.

- once around the cones they will striker on unopposed net.

Progressions:

- left foot finish or non-dominant foot

- differrent fents/moves at the cones (scissor, inside cut, dropping the shoulder)

Coaching Points:

- speed of play = fast (where possible)

- attacking mentality

- urgency to score once you clear the cones.

Sharks and Minos (10 mins)

Organization:

- make a 20 x 15 yard grid, smaller if less players

- divide the group into 3 equal teams of 4 or less if needed

- coach plays ball into Blue team - the team must make 4 passes before they play it across to the Red team. If Shark (black) wins the ball the play stops, if ball is played across successfully then new shark enters the grid while other exits.

- make the teams rotate every 3-4 mins to be sharks.

Progressions:

- add 2nd defender

- 2 touch and then 1 touch IF POSSIBLE

Coaching Points:

- speed of play = fast (where possible)

- play away from pressure

- don't wait for defender to get close, keep moving the ball and finding space to support (angles)

Game (15 mins)

Organization:

- make a 30 x 25 yard grid, smaller if less players

- divide the group into 2 equal teams of 5 + GK required

- make the teams rotate GKs every 4 mins.

Progressions:

- one touch finish are worth 2 goals

- finishing with non-dominant foot worth 2 goals

Coaching Points:

- speed of play = fast (where possible)

- decision making

- attacking mentality

- team defending (everyone is behind the ball when it's lost)

- game management when in possession (don't simply kick it away)

- urgency to score when behind
