Passing circle (20 mins)

Organization: Layout a Circle, approx. 30 yards radius. Split players into two equal teams, if possible - Feeders & Attackers; Attackers have ball each, (Also have spares available).

Instructions:

Attackers dribble their ball looking for a free outside feeder;

Attacker plays a 'one, two' with feeder, turns and looks for another free feeder.

How many passes can you complete in two or three minutes?

Switch players after set time period.

Coaching Points:

Angle of approach - centre;

Supporting foot next to ball, pointing at target;

Ankle locked, toe pointing up;

Weight & accuracy of pass;

Communication.

Progressions:

Vary combination passes;

Max. two touches before pass;

Increase area size for longer passes.

Passing/Posession 1 (20 mins)

Organization: 15x15 yard area; Four players (3 v 1); One1 ball (Extras around the outside)

Instructions:

3 v 1 keep aw ay w ithin the area;

Attacking team must keep possession within the area;

For every 5 passes the attacking team gets 1 point. Attacking team starts with a 5 point buffer;

If the defender manages to intercept or force play out of the area, a point is deducted;

Attacking Team must try to acquire as many points in a 2 minute period;

After 2 mins. defender switches over and play restsrts.

Restarts are by the attacking team and start from 0 passes. First pass is always free.

Coaching Points:

Player movement off the ball, (Angles?);

Specific passing techniques;

Weight and accuracy of pass;

Disguise your pass.

Progressions:

Limit touches;

Make area smaller (10 x 1 0 yard area)

Passive defending (defender must force the ball out of play only)

Make area larger (20 x 20 yard area)

Passing/Receiving over short distances (20 mins)

Organization: 15x15 yard area; Five Attackers - two Defenders - set up as shown, (Can start 1v1 in area); One ball, with spares.

Instructions:

Attacking players maintain possession of the ball away from the two defending players in the area;

Attacking players on the outside cannot be tackled or enter the playing area;

If the defenders win the ball they attempt to keep possession from the single attacking player in the area;

Attackers should look to use the player in the middle when the opportunity arises to play in;

Play set time then swap roles of players.

Coaching Points:

Keep the ball moving to try and stretch the defending players;

Player on the inside should look to receive ball at an angle and play quickly to the outside;

Weight and accuracy of the pass;

Decision making when to pass inside and when to maintain possession on the outside

Progressions:

Limit touches on the outside to one or two touches

Competition to make five passes = 1 point; Split the defenders = 2 points

Finish with small sided game.

Play to end lines or end zones.

Score by passing ball into end zone for team mate to receive.
