Warm up 10 mins

7v2 Rondo to warm up. 2 circles will be going at the same time. If the 2 in the middle get a touch of the ball, whoever played that pass goes in, along with the person to his left. Dynamic stretches to be completed every few minutes.

Screen 2

Pressing exercise 15 mins

The area is divided into 4 zones. Both teams to keep possession of the ball when they win it. If one team is able to play 10 passes, they score a point. If your team loses possession in one of the zones and you can stop the opposition from making 3 passes in that zone then play into another zone, then your team wins a point.

Coaching points

Player closest to the ball when team loses ball, must put immediate pressure on the ball. Teammates must react quickly to back him up.

Ensure there is more than one player puting pressure on the ball, with others providing back up in the second wave of pressure, to cut out passing lanes.

Defending corners 15 mins

1 player with be on the post with 3 along the 6-yard box. 4 players will man mark with one at edge of the box and 1 staying up top.

Short corner- player at front edge of 6-yard box to come out and player on the post will take his position. Player at edge of box to also come out if played short

Shadow play 20 mins

Blue team to play out from the back and try to progress across the line of cones. Red team are to put pressure on the centre backs to show them one way, then evryone else moves to pressurise the ball and the passing lines in behind. If the blues maintain possession, then reds must regain ther shape and delay the blues progress. Reds to break with speed and be direct if they win the ball back, high up the pitch.

Coaching points

As soon as centre back gets on ball, closest striker to put pressure on, with 2nd striker backing him up. Midfielders to close in behind as second wave of pressure and to close down passing channels.

If blueshave good possession, regain shape quickly

Triggers for pressure will be any ball that is played in the air, centre backs on ball, a ball bouncing or a player with a poor first touch

React quickly and be aware of different passing options to block off

If blues have controlled possession, regain shape and shuffle across pitch, waiting for one of the triggers
