Dribbling Cones w/ Finishing (20 mins)

Straightline cones are set up 10 yards from a gate at each end on both sides with 2/3 feet between cones, on 1 side place a pyramid of defenders (2 cones set shoulder width apart) and on the other a cluster of 9-11 randomly placed cones.

Players enter the gate dribbling at speed, maneuver the ball through the straightline cones dribbling with the inside of both feet, outside of both feet, just right, just left at speed but under control, speed dribble through the second gate then into the pyramid or cluster, finishing inside post.

Coaching Points: Dribble at speed with head up when there is space, closer, slightly slower through the cones using all the surfaces of the foot, players should be encouraged to NOT let the ball hit the cones, encourage players to use the proper surface (inside/ouside of foot, laces, sole), finishing should take place no more than 1/2 steps out of cones - taking a prep touch a little further out and using proper shooting technique (striking through the ball and landing on shooting foot) with instep or laces, into the side netting, 3 up 3 in.

1v1 Dribbling to shoot (15 mins)

5 yard gate to dribble through to begin exercise and 10 yard gate to attack defender 1v1, small goal with cones 3 yards off post to finsih inside of.

Attacking player dribbles at speed to entrance gate, turning with the outside/inside of foot, attacks defender who has recovered at speed to take a defensive stance. Once attacker has beaten defender they should finish between cone and post.

Coaching Points: Dribble at speed, close control around cones to enter, be direct in your dribbling, attack defender, push ball out of grid and shoot quickly. No fear of losing ball, be aggressive. Use accepted moves or quick touches. NO turning your back to the defender!

Counter Attacking - Quick Attacks (20 mins)

3v3+2 possession to counter attack (20X20 Grid, large goal set 40/50 yards away.

Teams play 3v3+2 possession, when there is a trasnition or loose ball coach call counter. Team in possession immediately plays a long ball into space for team mates to run onto to attack the large goal. Defending team recovers to defend goal, if they win the ball they attack goal.

Coaching Points: Teams work at maintaining possession in the small grid, when playing long ball make sure to play into space for a team mate to run onto and attack the goal, shape runs to attack goal, supporting runs for quick combiation or getting ahead of the ball to be played in (DO NOT watch)
