Do you want to build a snowman?

Organization:

20x20

4 Goals (2 goals if only 2 teams)

12 players, plenty of balls

Instructions:

1. 4 teams

2. Number players 1-4

3. Coach calls out go, and players have to run out, take one ball and return to their area

4. Next person doesn't go until player returns and high-fives them.

5. First team to get 3 soccer balls wins.

6. Players go until all the balls are gone from the middle.

6. Once there aren't balls in the center area left, players may go to other teams area to steal a ball.

7. Players can not defend or shield the opposing players from stealing a ball. (Progression - allow them to shield/defend)

Coaching Points:

1.Run as fast as possible to get ball from the middle

2.Dribble the ball quickly back to your team. Q+A: What kind of touches?

3. How are we stealing the balls from the middle area? Are we using the sole of the foot?

4. What happens when we feel rushed? Loose ball control. How can we control the ball?

Story:

Do you want to build a snowman? Elisa, Anna, Olaf, and Kristoff decided to enjoy the day by going outside to build some snowmen. Each team will represent a different character, and each will compete to make as many snowmen as possible by collecting balls (snow) and pinnies (scarves). 3 Balls = Snowman.

** Story version played with younger age groups **

Tom + Jerry

Organization:

30 x 20; Area set up as shown

Small triangles placed throughout grid

Blue players are taggers (pinnie in hand)

Instructions:

1. Players with a ball (in yellow) try to avoid being tagged by the defenders holding a blue pinnie (player in blue on diagram)

2. Triangles represent safe zones

3. One (yellow) player with a ball can pass into the traingle to another teammate (in yellow) to take his/her space. Once passed to the (yellow) teammate in the triangle, he/she then must leave the safe zone and find a new triangle.

4. If a (yellow) player with a ball is tagged by a defender, they must swap roles

5. Play for set period of time

Coaching Points:

1. Keep you head up - Look out for defenders holding a blue pinnie and quickly find the nearest safe zone.

2. Recognize when to use Messi vs. Ronaldo touches

3. Change of speed and direction

4. Using different surfaces of the foot to control the ball (Motor / Individual tech Skills)

Progressions:

Add balls - use hands and toss

More defenders

Less safe zones

Reg - no defenders

Rondo Transfer (10 mins)

Organization:

10 x 10 or 15 x 15 depending on numbers

Player 1 (defender) : 2 (attackers) ratio

Max amount of player in a grid = 5 attackers

Instructions:

1. Possession game where there is 1 defender every 2 players. Defender tries to steal the ball. "Attackers" try to possess. (Much like keep away)

2. Defender tries to touch the ball. If he/she does they switch with the player who lost possession.

3. If the ball goes out the defender stays the same (defenders must touch or steal the ball away to become an attacker)

4. Progress to Rondo transfer box (P3)

Coaching Points:

1. Communication

2. Awareness of space/pressure etc.

3. Try to play to back foot and turn to switch ball in other direction when receive it if possible

4. Quality/weight of passes.

5. Angles/distances of support

6. Constantly re-evaluate your position (can I be in a better position?)

Progressions:

(P1) - 5 passes equals a life against the current defender. Must stay in for a second round after touching the ball

(P2) - A nutmeg or a through ball (if there are two defenders) counts away a life against the defenders.

(P3) - Rondo transfer: two grids are combined and the teams work against each other

Condtioned Game: Endline (Opposed)

Organization:

30 x 20 (w/ 5 yard endzones)

2 teams of 4 per grid

Instructions:

1. (Play as a game, however,) Instead of having goals to score in, players must dribble into the endzone, pull the ball back and play it out to one of their players in order for it to count as a point.

2. If an attacking player enter the endzone, a defender can not enter.

3. Once a team has scored one point at on endzone, they must try to enter the opposite one.

Coaching Points:

1. Keep your head up - avoid clusters and danger

2. Dribbling technique - Messi touches around the inside of the grid. Once we see an opening of space to enter the endzone attack it with Ronaldo touches.

3. Change of speed after skill

4. Body shape - Keep a low center of gravity to (1) shield the other players from stealing the ball (2) quick explosions away from pressure

5. Body positioning - where is the ball in relation to pressure
