Screen 1 (10 mins)

"Coconuts" Set up:

In a 30x30 grid, two teams of four play a basic attack and defend game. The defending four have their balls on top of a cone, the attacking team must dribble toward the defenders and try and knock the balls off the cones. if they are successful they receive 1 point. Play four rounds then switch roles.

Coaching points:

This is a good warm up game to introduce basic defending skills, so look first at the body position of the defenders. Get low and sideways on, head up, as the attacker approaches delay him, choose the right time to tackle, choose the right type of tackle, don't over commit.

Screen 2 (20 mins)

Set up:

Mark out a 30 x 15-yard field with two goals. Place three different-colored starting cones behind each goal.

Instructions:

Divide players into three teams and assign each one to

a row of starting cones. Each player on the attacking team has a ball.

The coach starts each round by calling out a cone color. The first

attacker and defender at those cones run in to play I v l , 2v2. 3v3.

Coaching Points: Defenders pressure the ball, angle of approch.

can the defender delay the attacker? Can the defender show the

attacker away from the goal with correct body position. What type

of tackle? 2v2 who pressures who supports? 3v3 the shape of the

unit.

Screen 3 (20 mins)

Set up:

one goal, and two small goals in a 20x30 field. One ball,

pinnes if needed.

Instructions:

two teams play a 4v2 with a GK for defending team.

Atacking team can score in the big goal, if the defending team win the

ball they can score in either of the small goals. The goals short

handed are worth double. Game ends after ball is out of play, or a

goal is scored. Switch out defenders, GK's, and attackers so everyone

plays in every area.

Coaching Points:

Defenders are out numbered so they have to

work toghether at all times with good communication along with the GK. Good I v l defending combined with second defender in good support angles. Can the defending team delay the attack. and quickly counter?
