intro-review (15 mins)

Organization:

- 12 x 12 Yard area set up as shown

- 3 x 3 central zone set up as shown

- 5 players (4 attackers & 1 defender)

- Ball each

Instructions:

- Assign one Defender who starts inside central zone (3 x 3 yds)

- Attackers are numbered, have a ball each & start at either end line

- On coaches command Attacker 1 passes to defender who passes back to attacker. Attacker dribbles into grid & aims to dribble to the opposite endline for a point. Max 10 seconds then dead.

- Defender returns to central area.. Continue with attacker 2, followed by attacker 3, and lastly 4

- Defender completes 2 rounds or defends 8 times and then rotate the Defender

-Give the defender 1 point if he wins the ball breaks up play or delays for 10 seconds

Coaching Points:

- Speed & Angle of Approach - force attacker away & delay

- Body Position: low center, weight on front of feet , side- on , eye on ball

-Patient but threaten the ball - Can you win the ball when the attacker takes a bad touch out of feet

-15 minutes

Possible progressions:

1. Coach calls out random numbers - Defender must react

2. If Defender wins the ball they now swap out & become Attacker.

Organization:

- Two 30 x 15 channels set up as shown

Conditioned Game II (15 mins)

Organization:

- 20 x 35 area set up as shown

- 3 Mini Goals or gates set up as shown

- 3 v 3 + 1 (6 Players, plus a neutral)

- 1 Ball (Additional balls around the outside area)

-additional players can be set-up along the perimiter of the grid that can only be used by the attacking team(this forces the defending team to think about the space between them)

Instructions:

-play 3 v 3 + 1..Teams seek to score points by dribbling through the gates or passing into the pug nets

-Focus on coaching the team that is defending...use the coachoing points to do so in the flow and during natural stoppages

Coaching Points:

- same as previous for pressure and covering defender.

-3rd defender - "balance" should stay "connnected" and splits the space to mark space and player

-compactness:stay connected-limit space between defenders.....don't get split!

-watch for cues to win the ball:weak pass, poor touch, ball in air)

-Communicate to help when switching roles

-Passion and energy when defending-its also a mindset!
