Unopposed Shooting (15 mins)

Shooting Unopposed Game

20y by 20y area, 3 players are shooters that can dribble their soccer ball in the area before shooting the ball at a blue player. The blue players are looking to move around and not get hit by a soccer ball.

If a blue player gets hit with a soccer ball they put a pinnie on and get a soccer ball from the pile and become a shooter. The last person left at the end is the winner. The last three players left at the end become shooters for the next round.

Rules:

1) The ball cannot go above the knee

2) Shooters have to kick the ball using their laces

Coaching Points:

- Chest and knee should be over the ball when shooting to prevent it from going in the air

- Players should approach the ball at an angle to generate power

- Players strike the ball at the middle like they would a pass

- Players use their laces to shoot the ball

Opposed Shooting (15 mins)

Goalies and Strikers

Set up like above. Red team are the strikers, blue team are the goalies. The red team are dribbling their soccer ball around the flag and will have one touch before shooting at the goal. The blue team are the goalies and are running around the back of the goal and getting in the goal to prevent the other team from scoring.

When coach shouts go, one player from each team will begin. Once the shot has been taken the next player from each team can go. Teams will play for 2 minutes and then switch roles. The shooters are looking to score as many goals as they can in the 2 minutes. The team with the most goals scored after the first round will get 1 point. Play three rounds.

Coaching points for the strikers:

1) Speed of dribble is important in order to get an advantage

2) A strikers touch around the flag needs to be ahead for them to run onto the ball. We do not want players stopping and moving backwards

3) Look to strike the ball using the laces and in to the corners away from the goalie.

Progressions/Adaptations:

- Bring the flag closer/further away

- Strikers have to use their weaker foot to dribble or shoot or both, I suggest you bring the flag to the other side of the goal as most players weaker foot will be their left

- Put a small disc 3 steps away from either post, if the players get the ball between the the small disc and the post they get 3 goals for their team instead of 1

Play for approximately 15 Minutes
