Review: Attacking 1v1 moves - Scissor. (1) Drive into space with small Messi touches, after

performing the move take a explosive, Ronaldo touch, out and into

space. (2) Unbalance defenders with body and move. (3) Cut against the

defenders front foot. (4) After exploding cut back into space left

behind. (5) Finish on goal or to target.

Introduce: Defense; Reading good vs. bad touches.

Key Points: (1)

Close space down quickly. (2) Arms distance away, low center of

gravity. (3) Light on feet. Shuffling backwards. (4) Identification of

bad touch. (5) Reaction/Final touch to steal in positive direction.  * Block tackle vs Poke tackle *

Technical (15 mins)

On Arrivial: (Prior to start of practice)

Organization:

As shown in diagram

Dynamic Warm-up:

1. Jog to cone and back twice

2. Open the gate to the cone, close the gate on our way back

3. Half kicks (Cross the body; Knee to elbow) to cone, Light extension - Full kicks on our way back.

4. High knees to cone, butt kicks on our way back.

5. Side shuffle facing one direction to cone - switch direction half way in between. Two alternating side skips on our way back.

6. Small skips down, big skips on our way back.

7. Move on to SAQ with cones.

Coaching Points:

1. Be on toes

2. Listen for coaches signal

3. Reaction time

4. Speed of movement

Competitive Warm-up: Knee Slaps

1. Players in pairs must try to (tap) each others knees. Each tap equals a point. Player with most points between the two wins. Players are not allowed to run away from one another. Duration: 1 minute. Switch partners after each game.

10 x 15

4 players per group

2 Balls

Center obstacle set up as shown

Instructions:

1. Player A dribbles towards middle obstacle, performs the given move / technique (Shoulder drop; Ronaldo Chop; Scissors), and joins the end of the opposite line.

2. Player B begins on Player A's eye contact after coming out of the move.

Coaching Points:

1. Static or very controlled approach driving at the defender's front foot. 

2. Timing / Exaggeration of move - just outside tackling radius / shoulder, knee, eyes.

3. Body shape - low center of gravity.

4. Eyes up, identification of space, change of speed, appropriate angle taken for next movement.

5. Scissor Technique: Foot pointed towards ground, scissor as close to ball as possible to increase speed of the move. Drive with the foot that you intend to do the first scissor with. Getaway touch is out of the tackling radius and into space.

Progressions:

(P1) - Players must pass coming out of move.

(P2) - Remove middle cones, partners perform skills on each other (passive pressure)

Semi/Fully Opposed

Organization:

Groups of 3 to 4

Attacking player shown in Yellow

(2x) 5 yard gates set up as shown.

Instructions:

1. Defending player plays into the attacking player, and immediately presses the attacking player applying  pressure.

2. Player next in line, picks a gate and run towards it. The attacking player can only attack toward the open gate.

Coaching Points:

1. Attacking player head up to assess where the open gate is. If we don't have our head up we will not know where the space to attack.

2. Drive at the defending player to commit them, if we drive directly at them they don't know where we intend on attacking.

3. Angle, speed and distance of approach

4. Deny space and penetration

5. Low center of gravity

6. Body weight on back leg, allowing front foot to poke the ball away

7. Body positioning - On the outside shoulder of the attacker; low center of gravity; feet staggered.

8. 1v1 scenario - Can you force the player out of bounds. Using the sideline as a 2nd defender.

2v2 with Targets (25 mins)

Organization:

20 x 15 yard area set up as shown

4-6 players

1 Ball (Additional around the outside)

Instructions:

1. Blue player passes the ball into the red player and quickly closes down the space in between.

2. Red player is looking to score by shooting in the goal. If he/she can't get by the defender they may pass the ball back to a supporting player to get a 2nd attacker involved.

3. If defender dispossesses the ball from the red player he/she may score on the opposite goal.

4. First player to 7 points wins.

Coaching Points:

1. Angle, speed and distance of approach

2. Deny space and penetration

3. Low center of gravity

4. Body weight on back leg, allowing front foot to poke the ball away

5. Body positioning - On the outside shoulder of the attacker; low center of gravity; feet staggered.
