Warm Up (20 mins)

Organization:

2 small fields set up with passing gate goals

Instructions:

On arrival begin with juggling, once 4 players have arrived begin to to play 2v2 then 3v3 once 8 have arrived then 2 sepearte games can be played

No goal if no celebration

Coaching Points:

Make sure players and engaged and having fun

Progressions:

Rotate opponents

Designate captains to lead celebrations

Winner moves up, loser moves down

Technical- Body Shape (10 mins)

Organization:

24x12 area

Players work in pairs

1 ball per group

Instructions:

Partner 1 dribbles around the space while partner 2 keeps ball between them and where their partner is going while maintaing a sideways body shape

Rotate who has ball after 30 seconds

The defender is not allowed to steal the ball

Coaching Points:

Sideways body shape

Quick choppy steps

Maintain balance

Technical - Closing Down/Block Tackling (10 mins)

Organization:

24x12 area.

Players work in pairs.

Balls set up halfway between pairs.

Instructions:

1. Players look to close down on the ball together.

2. Focus on body shape, proper stance, and angle of approach.

3. Players look to mirror each other before returning to start line.

4. After a few minutes, players perform a block tackle at the ball.

Coaching Points:

1. Speed and angle of approach.

2. Proper defensive stance - "surfer" position.

3. Close space quickly and slow down on approach.

4. Block tackle - lock ankle, use inside of foot.

Progressions:

1. Ensure players work on both sides.

1v1 Opposed (20 mins)

Organization:

1. 24x12 area split in two 10x12 areas.

2. Players set up as shown.

Instructions:

1. Attacker looks to dribble across defender's line.

2. Defender is live on attacker's first touch.

3. If defender wins the ball, he looks to counter (dribble across attacker's line).

4. Players return to same line.

5. Rotate roles after 2-3 minutes.

Coaching Points:

1. Speed and angle of approach.

2. Slow down as distance becomes shortened.

3. Correct moments to tackle.

4. Keep player and ball in front.

5. Transition to attack.

Condtioned Game (20 mins)

Organization:

24x12 area

3 teams of 3

Instructions:

Play 3v3, to score a point you must dribble across the end line

Once a team is scored on, the next team is on

Coaching Points:

Tackle using your full body weight

Drive through the center of the ball

Tackle with the foot moving away from the player

Ankle locked with toe pointed up

Place non-tackling foot next to the ball by stepping forward

Position is side on

Progressions:

Add small goals to score in rather than dribbling across end line
