4 Corner 3 Turns

Organization: 30x30 square with a cone 5 yards on either side of the corner. A 5x5 yard square is also placed directly in the middle of the square. 2-3 people per corner.

Instructions: 1.) All four corners work at the same time. Players dribble to the Red cone first, perfrom a turn, dribble to the Yellow cone, perform the same turn with the other foot, and then acclerate out to the nearest Blue cone and perform a turn for the third time. Accelerate back to the end of your line. 2.) Perform the first three turns as before but now after turning at the Blue cone, immediately turn again and make your way through the square to the opposite corner (enforces interference/awarness/close control)

Coaching Points: Controlled approach; Bend the knees and push off plant foot; Peak over shoulder; Take first touch out of body; Change speeds; Use deception; Step/Swivel/Chop; Inside/Outside/Stop/Cruyf turns (Depending on level, can also do Stepover/L/Roll Step/ U Turns)

Halfline Turn

Organization: 20x30 yard area. There is one defender on the endline and three attackers on the opposite endline. Each attacker has a ball.

Instructions: On coaches command the attackers dribble their balls out into the area. As soon as the attackers cross the half line, the defender is released. The defedner attempts to knock out as many balls as he can while the attackers attempt to turn and return to the line they started from. One point for each attacker every time they return successfully and stop the ball on the line. One point for the defender every time he kicks a ball out of the area. Play for 3-5 minutes and then switch out defender.

Coaching Points: Protect the ball; Controlled approach; Keep head up; Change speeds; First touch out of feet; Turning techniques (Inside/Outside/Stop/Cruyf)

Progressions: Add a second defender (either in the same location or have one from the front and one from the back) Make them only use their weaker foot.

1v1 to Endline

Organization: 10x30 yard area, with two 5 yard endzones and a 20 yard middle playing area.

Instructions: 1v1 to two endlines. Red player has the ball and takes his first touch out of the first endzone. Blue defender stays close to the red player but does not attempt to steal the ball. The red player now uses turning ability to create space for himself and tries to stop the ball on either white endline. The blue defender can only tag the attacker when he enters one of the two endzones. The defender's objective is to stay close and use speed/agility to maintain ability to tag attacker when he enters an endzone. The red player's objective is to use speed/deception and turning ability to lose the defender and accelerate to either endline. Attacker must use at least one turn before he can score a point.

Coaching Points: First touch out of feet (endzone); Awareness of field/endline/defender; Close control; Protect the ball by putting your body between ball and defender; Choose the correct foot to dribble/turn; Change speeds before and after turn; Bend knees; Step in front of ball and swivel hips, chop out of feet; Close door on defender; Creativity

Progressions: Defender can now attempt to steal the ball in the middle area and score a point for himself.

1v1 Endzone

Organization: 10x30 yard area with two 5 yard endzones. 3-4 players per team.

Instructions: Coach plays a ball into the field from the sideline. On his pass both Blue and Red attackers sprint out looking to be the first to the ball. Whoever receives looks to turn and dribble the ball back into his own endzone for a point. Whoever does not receive the ball must look to defend and win the ball back. If defender wins the ball, he may score in his endzone. Play is live until a point is scored or the ball goes out of bounds.

Coaching Points: Reaction time to coaches pass; Awareness of ball/defender/endzone; Controlled approach to the ball; Protect the ball; Turning technique

Progressions: Instead of an endzone make it more challenging by adding small goals in the corners
