Activator/Warm-Up

Equipment

Ball per player, spread out.

Organization

As the kids arrive at the field introduce them to juggling the ball.

Start with thighs and then slowly add in feet to those who look to be able.

Key Coaching Points

Eye on the ball.

Cushion the ball, the aim is to control the ball

Challenge them with a number and have them practice at home!

Water Break

Foxes & Farmers/Scissor

Equipment:

Half of players have a pinnie tucked into back of shorts making a tail (foxes) Other half with no tail are the farmers.

Organization

20 x 20 yard square (place cones every other pace, or kids will run out of square.

Start game without the ball

Foxes run around trying to keep away from farmers.

Farmers run after foxes and try to take tails by pulling pinnies out.

Once pinnie is pulled the fox is now a farmer and game is played until there are no foxes left.

Play again and make sure everyone gets to be in both groups.

Key Coaching Points

Keep heads up, looking forward

Try to use a body swerve/fake to avoid capture

Progressions

Introduce a ball per player (Foxes & Farmers)

If Fox performs "a scissor", farmer, cannot get them (Might be easier with older players at Vet's)

1 v 1 to Goal

Equipment

All ball placed in or beside goal

Players placed in two lines on each side of goal

Organization

When coach plays ball out, first player in each line must run around the cone.

First player to collect ball is on offense, other plays defense, then switch.

Must do one move (emphasis on step over) before being alowed to shoot - no move = no score (Again, might be a little easier with older players at Vet's)

Key Coaching Points

Players MUST work on moves.

Work to beat players and find a shot.

Progession

Move players to 2 v 2, and 3 v 3 situations

Screen 4

Equipment

5 v 5 (4 field and 1 GK)

Organization

Keeping players spaced out will allow for more 1 on 1 situations.

If games is too bunched up, coach shouts "Runaway Train" and the team that is DEFENDING must leave the game and run around back of coach then return to game. Attacking team must pass to try and score.

Keep the ball moving - Don't worry about placing kids in exact places for restarts (let them figure it out, plus it takes away from their playing time.)

Key Coaching Points

Keep reminding them to work on moves!

Use entire body on moves - not just feet. Try to sell the move.
