3v3 + 4 (20 mins)

Description

3v3 game in central area, focusing on midfield 3 in a 1-2 formation (1 pivote, 2 attacking) playing against a 2-1 formation (double-pivote, 1 attacking). Both teams have two bouncers behind them (acting like two centre-backs) and are trying to pass the ball through the opposition midfield into the other teams centre-backs.

Key Points

- Head up early and be positive

- Consistent movement off the ball from 6, 8 and 10

- When opportunities to play forward arise, ensure we have success in doing so

- If forward pass not available, play back and start again with bouncers

- Encourage rotation to keep play unpredictable in midfield 3

- 8 and 10 to stretch play whenever possible and occupy opposition double-pivote

Progression

If centre-back (bouncer) receives the ball and wants to drive in (if possible) then he can do so and pivote (6) must drop out in his place and cover him until safe to switch back. Focus on correct decision making and communication in this instance.

Organisation

40 x 30 area

Two teams of 5 (10 bibs, 2 colours)

Cones

Spare footballs at each end of rectangle area

Description

3v3 game in central area, focusing on midfield 3 in a 1-2 formation (1 pivote, 2 attacking) playing against a 2-1 formation (double-pivote, 1 attacking). Both teams have one bouncer behind them (acting like a centre-back) and are trying to pass the ball through the opposition midfield into the other teams centre-backs. There is a floater playing in the middle for the team that has the ball and is acting like a false 9.

Key Points

- Head up early and be positive

- Consistent movement off the ball from 6, 8 and 10

- When opportunities to play forward arise, ensure we have success in doing so

- If forward pass not available, play back and start again with bouncer

- Encourage rotation to keep play unpredictable in midfield 3

- 8 and 10 to stretch play whenever possible and occupy opposition double-pivote

- If false 9 is high, keep diamond shape to keep possession

- If false 9 drops lower, 8 or 10 to drop in with 6 and create deeper double-pivote

Progression

If centre-back (bouncer) receives the ball and wants to drive in (if possible) then he can do so and pivote (6) must drop out in his place and cover him until safe to switch back. Focus on correct decision making and communication in this instance.
