Warm Up - Juggling (5 mins)

Organization:

30x20 yard area

Each player has a ball

Instructions:

Complete juggling challenges set by coach

 

Coaching Points:

Use laces to contact ball

Point toes upwards slightly

Lock ankle - tense muscles in lower leg for solid contact

SAQ - Changing Direction (10 mins)

Organization:

2 cones, 10 yards apart

2 players - 1 leader (attacker) 1 follower (defender)

Soccer balls on top of cones

 

Instructions:

Attacker has to touch a cone before the defender can get there to score a point

 

If they both touch at the same time, defender scores a point

Switch roles after 5 attempts

 

Coaching Points:

Change of speed - slow to fast

Accelerate towards the cone you want to touch

Make your decision and go

Bend knees to give better platform to accelerate

Changing Direction Semi Opposed (20 mins)

Organization:

 

Same as SAQ practice

 

Instructions:

Each player now has a ball

Attacker has to stop their ball at the cone before the defender can match them

Switch roles after 5 attempts

 

Coaching Points:

Change of speed

Small slow touches to bring the defender in close

Bigger touches once you have changed direction

Keep the defender off balance by moving the ball

Organization:

20x10 yard area

2 players (1 attacker, 1 defender)

Plenty of soccer balls

 

Instructions:

Defender makes a pass to the attacker and can move once ball is received

Attacker can score in either goal

Switch lines after each attempt

 

Coaching Points:

Use 1st touch to travel towards a goal

Bring the defender in close with smaller touches

Push the ball away from body after changing direction

Score quickly

Do you have to change direction?
