Warm Up / SAQ

Warm Up / SAQ

Organization: Set up a grid 18x18 with one player from each team in the middle. Both teams will have a ball and they will be moving in the opposite direction.

Activity:

Free passing pattern with the main goal of combining with the players in the middle especially when there is no pressure. How quick can we move that ball around the grid with firm accurate passes. (both teams). There will be 4 rations each of them lasting 2 minutes. While the 5 players are in the passing pattern two players from each team will be working on the sides for SAQ.

Progression: Everyone has not made it through SAQ and we can move towards the topic of 1v2 attacking. 2 players from each team will get to be in the middle for 2 minutes in a 1v2 situation trying to combine and keep the ball moving. The five players who are sitting out will be put though the second part of SAQ. (Plyometrics) - TBD

Coaching Points:

1. Players in the middle need to position themselves inside the grid where they can take their fist touch in the direction they want to go and make the pass on their second touch. When in the middle we want to limit the amount of touches you take as you will be under heavy pressure.

2. Play simple and smart. Don't complicate things.

Organization: Three separate grids with situations where the attackers are faced with a 2v1, but have a chance to catch the defenders off guard.

Activity:

Attackers in the outsider channels are trying to score on a full size goal against 2 defenders starting out of position. In the middle channel the attack is meant to find more success because he/she now has two options to shoot at increasing his/her odds of scoring.

Coaching Points:

1. Be aggressive.

2. Take what the defender gives you. If they show you left go left even if it is your weak foot.

3 Do not give up if you lose the ball because the defenders are able to gain points by scoring on the little goals.

Organization: Grid size 20x24 with two goals and GK's.

Activity:

Players in the corners will go in order from 1-4. They will be attacking 2 defenders meeting them around the half way line of the grid. Attacking players need to decided if they want to take them on or shoot from distance. Each corner will be a partnership of 2 players. The player who's turn it is not to attack needs to pay attention because if the defenders win the ball from the 1 attacker they can attack they goal they are facing. If defenders with the ball the second attacker can apply pressure trying to prevent the defense scoring in a 2v1 situation. We are playing defenders against attackers so whichever team has the most points after 5 minutes wins.

Coaching Points:

1. Recognize the space where you can attack the defenders in a 1v1 situation and not 2v1.

2. If the defenders back off take the shot.

3. We want to go forward so can we do this quickly bringing creativity and imagination trying to beat the 2 defenders and catch them off guard.

Organization: Grid size 25x30 with four teams of 3. Only two will be playing at once but we will keep the rotation quick so everyone is getting lots of reps.

Activity:

3v1 in your own defense half with plenty of room to keep the ball and be wait for your only forward to create separation from the two defenders. Once the ball is played into the forward he/she can either turn and take the two defenders on or lay the ball off to one of his/her defenders who is allowed to hit a shot first time.

Coaching Points:

1. Make good decisions and accurate passes.

2. Bring variety to your attack. Keeping the defenders honest because one or two times you will catch them and score a goal or get a good chance at goal.

3. A half chance is better than no chance.

Organization: 7v7 with GK's.

Activity:

Two defenders from each team must stay in their defensive third and one attacker must stay in his attacking third. Players can shoot on three different goals. The small goals count for 1 and the full size goal with the GK's count as 2.

Coaching Points:

1. Take what the defender gives you. Don't be greedy and force something trying to get two goals on one shot.
