This endurance practice develops player’s ability to accelerate, sprint and then recover quickly. Intermittent sprint ability is the difference maker in tight games and this type of practice overloads the energy systems which provide high performance deep into the second half.

Endurance Dribble & Sprint (15 mins)
Organisation
Teams line up on opposite ends of the pitch. Split teams into two equal groups and give the first group a ball each.
The first group dribble to the halfway line, stop the ball and then sprint to the line.
The second group then sprint to the ball, take a good first touch and then dribble to the end.
As soon as the balls are back the first group go again; players on a 1:2 work to rest ratio.
Start with 4 repetitions, stopping if the quality (which means the sprint speed) drops.

Progressions
1. Increase the number of repetitions week-on-week as player’s fitness develops.
2. Add a competitive element to the practice. For example, for each repetition award a goal to the team that finishes first; carrying the scores into the game that follows.
