Session Objective: Develops attacking combinations to create chances in behind when the opposition hold a middle defensive line.

Organisation: 6 v 6 (+2)

6 v 6 with both teams playing in a 2-3-1 formation with the aim to receive the ball in the 'End Zone'. The team in possession plays with the 2 neutral players at the side who can only move in this area. The defenders are not allowed to enter the end zones before the ball is played there.

Progressions. 1) No defenders allowed in the side zones. 2) The defenders are full active, but only one can enter the side zones at a time. 3) Unlimited touches and neutral players with 2 touches/ 1-2 touches and neutral players with 2 touches. 4) Add a 3rd neutral player to play in the central zone. 5) All players in the central zone have 1 touch and the side players have 2 touches.

Key Factors:

Players should be aiming to change the direction of play and pass to the neutral players on the side, exploiting their numerical advantage and extra width.

The inside players should be making runs to receive the ball in the end zones from the neutral players and communication with their team mates to make opposite runs(as shown in the diagram) to create space for each other.

The timing of the run and the pass needs to be well coordinated.
