Dribbling and Attacking Combinations

Description

Warm-up: ball manipulation working individually with the ball work on the following moves:

1. Dribbling - cutting ball inside/outside

2. Stepovers and variations.

3. Ronaldinho.

4. Ronaldo.

5. Chop.

All players have a ball including defenders. Attackers dribble ball through both grids, all attackers go at approximately same time (rather than one at a time) aiming to reach the end grid. Defenders aim to tackle without losing their own ball.

PROGRESSION 1: Defenders no longer have a ball.

PROGRESSION 2: Into a 2-vs-1 in each grid, a floater is added, allowing attackers to beat defenders with a move or a pass. Note, all attackers continue to go at same time, which also brings interference.

a.Wall pass/overlap around first defender.

b.Play to second server around first defender.

c.Third man run – play to first server, who plays to second server and back to same attacker.

1v1s & 2v2s

Description

Each pair plays 1v1 in each lane.

Progressions:

1. Attackers can cross the lanes and score in any goal, defenders must stay in their lane - attackers can identify opportunities to dribble, encourages communication amongst defenders.

2. Play 2v2 with four goals across the two combined lanes.

Technical

Same as part 1 however it is performed under greater pressure.

Tactical

1. Commit defender.

2. How to move the defender to create sopace to dribble.

2. Player ownership/freedom to work on moves to beat defenders.

SSG - 1v1 in Final Third

Description

One player from each team must stay in end zone as a defender. The players in the middle must combine to free a player, so that they can attack the end zone creating a 1v1 to beat defender. Defenders can also be used to help retain possession for the attacking team.

Progressions:

1. Add a forward into end zone encouraging combinations around defender when attacker breaks to enter (2v1).

2. As progression 1, however the attacking player entering final third can be tracked by a defender (2v2).

Note in these progressions a midfield player can drop into defensive third to receive possession from GK encouraging playing out from the back.

2. Identify when to dribble/maintain possession - can they play forward?

3. Combinations to release players.
