The aim of the session is to encourage players to look forward trying to score a goal/play a pass that leads to a goal. Players will also learn to keep possession if penetration is not available

WU Short/Short/Long (10 mins)

Organization:

1. Distance players dependent upon age and skill level

2. Players work in groups of 3s with 1 ball as shown

Instructions:

1.The sequence is two short passes and one long pass

2. Player 1 plays a give and go with player 2. On the return pass player 1 hits a long ball (15-20 yards) to player 3.

3. After the long pass player 1 immediately makes a run towards play 3 to offer support for the long pass 

4. Player 1&3 then repeat the sequence with player 2 now becoming the furthest player. 

Coaching Points:

1. Getting into line with the ball

2. Assess the flight as ball travels

3. Select appropriate surface for receiving the long pass

4. weight and accuracy of passes between players to maintain good tempo

Progressions:

1.P – Increase the passing distance

2.P – Limit players to two touches

3.R – Reduce the distance of the longer pass

4. Making passing sequence competitive first team to 10 reps.

4v2 Zones (20 mins)

Organization:

- Teams are divided into 3 groups of four (adjust accordingly)

- Teams 1 & 2 are placed inside the orange and green areas and are considered attackers

- Team 3 is placed in the netural zone and start the game has defenders

- Coach always starts the play after the ball goes out of bounds

Instructions:

- Coach starts by playing a ball to one of the attacking teams

- As soon as ball is played two defenders are release to try and win/disrupt the attacking teams play

- After a # of passing combinations the attacking team of 4 looks to play the ball to other attacking team in the opposite grid

-Another Keep away ensues

- If defenders win the ball or force play out the teams switch roles

- Teams can score by playing a successful pass to attacking team in opposing grid.

- First team to 5 goals wins the game and the losing teams has to do frog jumps

Coaching Points:

-Player in position of ball must always have support to his/her Left, Right and a Spilt pass option (through the middle)

- Awareness of the diamondtriangular shapes

- 3 teammates must always be repositioning themselves offering support as the ball travels from player to player

- players must alway first pick head up looking to score first then make decision to keep the ball moving if penetration is denied

- Receiving team should be ready to receive the long ball technical and positionally

- Speed of play - players must make quick and accurate decision in order to obtain maximum success

Progressions:

- Limit number of touches

- Players have to get their own ball on the restart

Triangle Goal (20 mins)

Organization:

- 30 x 50 area set up as shown

- Players are divided into two even teams with goalkeeper/coach in the Triangle goal as the target player

- balls are compiled at each endline as shown

- Game is always restarted with a kick in

Instructions:

- Teams can score a point by finding the GK in the triangle. GK must successfully recieve ball for a goal to be scored

- field players are not allowed to enter the triangular goal area and goalkeeper is not allowed to leave this area

- game is played to 3 goals and losing team must do 10 frog jumps before the new game begins

Coaching Points:

1. Look to penetrate 1st

2. If can't penetrate, can we possess

3. Movement of players to create passing lanes forward

4. Timing of movement to give support

Progressions:

Team can also score a point by looking to make 8-10 consecutive passes

Limitation on the number of touches you can take on the ball

Score by hitting GK's hands

Score by striking ball through triangle

Score by dribbling through triangle

4v4 (20 mins)

Organization:

- Playing Area is 30x40 yds set up as shown

- Players are divided into 3 even teams, with two teams playing each other and one team on the side

- Six small goals placed on the field as shown

Instructions:

- Players play for 4 mins or first to 3 goals.

- After goal is scored or time is called time on deck quickly transitions in to be defending team and losing team goes to sideline

Coaching Points:

- Speed of play is important throughout the game

- transition between games must be quick

- commit opponents to the dribble and set up passing combinations or use passing option as decoy and take the ball to goal yourself

- there must be lots of communication especially when passing. players must state the combination they would like to work so receiving players knows the type of touch to take

Progressions:

- A player cannot score consecutive goals in same goal

- 2/1 touch passes and or finishes

- to score all players must be across the half
