Sessions Objectives:

-Moving on from week 1, players should be able to dribble and RWB competently using correct tehcniques (angled foot using laces)

-To introduce players to be able to perform numerous tricks/turns at speed/whilst dribbling

ABCs square (15 mins)

Set up:

-Each player has a ball and dribbles freely around area

-Introduce 3 turns/moves to practice

-Introduce 3/4 footskills relating to practice

Key coaching points:

-Technique over speed

-Awarness

-Use different surfaces of the foot

Progressions:

-Add competition to footskills

-Change balls

Skills corridor (15 mins)

Set-up:

-Players in groups of 3/4's

-Object is to dribble through the 'corridor' to the other end

-Once at the end dribble back down the sides

Coaching points:

-Players have as many touches as possible

-Keep their head up so they know who is around them

-Dribble through but on the way players must travel forwards/backwards/sideways

-On the way back can players:

-Perform different skill moves

-Keep the ball off the floor

Progressions:

-Have players passing across the corridor whilst dribblers are moving up and down

-If there is a 'gap' to dribble across do it and swap places with partner

-Can players look for other players to pass to (sideways/diagonally)

-Players at either end of corridor dribbling back and forth whilst observing passing players

Trick tank (15 mins)

Set up:

-Players divided into 4 teams in each corner, one ball per team

-Players take turns RWB and performing turns, cuts and moves

-Play 5x2 minutes with 30 seconds recovery in-between

Coaching points:

-Technique over speed

-Head up to observe players and space

-Encourage the use of both feet at all times

-Maintain balance whilst changing speed and directions

Progressions:

-Turn at first cone and return

-Perform 2 tricks/skills/turns in square and return to line

-Perform trick in square and accelerate to a different corner

-Defender in square; 1 point if attacker gets through & 1 point if defender takes ball and runs to edge of the square with it

***Note: Progressions are ability dependent

SSG (15 mins)

Set-up:

-Teams of 3/4 play against each other

-Switch teams every 5 mins or so

Coaching points:

-Reinforce techniques used in practice (Shielding)

-Encourage players to use skill moves to beat opponents
