Warm Up

Organization:

50x40 depending on number of players

12 players,6 with the ball, 6 without the ball

cone box in the middle 10x10

6 cones on the outside

Instructions:

1.Players on the inside are checking to players on the outside for a return volley

2.The outside player tosses a ball out to the player, the receiving player must use thier laces to volley the ball back into the hands of the thrower

3. After hitting the volley, player runs back to the middle box,makes quick change of directon to an open thrower (cannot go back to the same thrower you just came from)

4. Alternate between left and right foot

A. Laces, straight forward

B. Inside foot

C.Laces from the side, (right foot volley from the side to the right hand of the thrower- vice versa)

D. Headers

Coaching Points:

1. Body positioning, body square with thrower

2. Standing foot correctly planted facing the target

3. Toe pointed down, ankle locked ( for laces)// inside foot- ankle locked, toe pointed up

4. foot is following through the ball to target

Progressions:

P- Receiving the ball on the thigh/chest then volley back

Main Theme

Organization:

Players in pairs

1 ball per pair

2 yard gates, 10 yards in between each player

Instructions:

Players strike the ball through the gate using the driven technique.

No scores to ensure shooting technique is used rather than passes.

Coaching Points:

Observe target

Angle of approach

Non-Kicking foot placement

Body weight learning forward (head, shoulders, hips then knee over ball)

Contact on ball, contact on foot

Follow through

Land on striking foot

Progressions:

Move gates 15-20 yards apart and make it a competition to see who can be the first to score 10 goals against their partner using correct shooting technique

2 teams of 5 with 2 goalkeepers

Lots of balls.

Instructions:

A plays to B who sets back to A for a first time shot at goal

Teams play first to 5 goals

Coaching Points:

Observe target and GK

Angle of approach

Non-Kicking foot placement

Body weight learning forward (head, shoulders, hips then knee over ball)

Contact on ball, contact on foot

Follow through

Land on striking foot

Progressions:

Make individual competition (first to 10 goals)

Add defender from opposite line.

Conditioned Game

Organization:

4v4 or 6v6

40x30

Instructions:

1.One player allowed in opposition half at a time to close down when defending and act as target man when in possession.

2.Ball starts with the goal keeper

3.Players must stay on their side however they can shoot from their half of the field

4. If a player in the their own half passes the ball to the 1 forward in the attacking half, that player can enter the attacking half for a 3v2 , however once the defending team obtains possesion or a goal is scored or played out of bounds, the second attacking player must return back to their defending half

5. If a shot is missed, it is a quick restart from the GK

Coaching Points:

Striking technique

Type of shot - Decision making

Movement off the ball

Speed of play

Shoot when opportunity arises.

Progressions:

Limit touches

Set a time limit of possession for a team
