Warm Up (10 mins)

Organization:

1. 20x20 area set up as shown

2. One ball per player

Instructions:

1. Players juggle the ball using different surfaces dictated by the coach

2. Rotation

a. Thighs Only

b. Feet only

c. Right Foot, Left Foot, Bounce

d. Combination, cant use the same surface twice

3. Each round is 2 mins long

Coaching Points:

1. Body positioning

2. Correct body/foot surface

3. Drop the ball, do not throw it in the air

4. Can you keep the ball at eye level

Progressions:

1. Competition - the most is allotted time with specific surface

Main Theme 1 (10 mins)

Organization:

1.30 x 30 yard area with 8 cones scattered set up as shown

2.12 players (10 attackers, 2 defenders) set up as shown

3.10 balls

Instructions:

1.The defenders have to tag the attackers

2.The attackers are safe as long as they are on a cone

3.If another attacker moves to the cone, the attacker already there has to leave

4.Attackers can only be caught when in open area

5.If a defender tags the attacker, they switch roles

Coaching Points:

1.Head up and observe surroundings

2.Close control of the ball

3.Awareness of other players moving into your space

Progressions:

P – Remove 1 cone to give less hiding spaces

R – Play without the ball

Main Theme 2 (10 mins)

Organization:

1.20 x 10 yard area set up as shown

2.3 players (2 Attackers, 1 Defender) set up as shown

3.1 ball per attacker

Instructions:

1.Attacking players start at opposite ends of area

2.Each attacker starts dribbling toward opposite end of area simultaneously

3.Defender must try to stop players from reaching opposite end

4.Attackers score one point for each successful run across area

5.If defender dispossesses attacker, and keeps ball in grid, they switch roles

6.First player to 10 points wins

Coaching Points:

1.Controlled approach

2.Know when to run with the ball and when to dribble

3.Engage defender at speed by attacking front foot

4.Timing of move – just outside tackling radius

5.Change of speed and direction

6.Cut into the space behind defender

Progressions:

P – Both attackers start from the same end line, and attack the same end

R – Defender must stay in the middle for 10 repetitions, even if they win the ball

Main Theme 3 (10 mins)

Organization:

1.30 x 15 yard area set up as shown

2.12 players (2 Teams of 6)

3.3 players from each team situated on diagonally opposite markers set up as shown

4.Supply of balls at half way line with coach

Instructions:

1.Coach plays ball into feet of attacking player A

2.Player A must dribble ball over half way line

3.On player A’s first touch, the defender on his side may chase him, attempting to tag him before the line

4.After crossing the line, player A is safe, and passes the ball to feet of his teammate B

5.Player A and the chasing defender rejoin their team on opposite sides

6.Player B repeats in opposite direction, with the defender chasing on his first touch

7.Roles change when the attacking player is tagged before the half way line

Coaching Points:

1.Positive first touch out of the feet

2.Select the appropriate controlling surface

3.Fewest number of touches to cover the distance quickly

4.Run in a straight line

5.Execution of final action

Progressions:

P – Defending player can move to chase attacker as soon as his team mate passes the ball

P – Defending player can move to chase attacker as soon as his team mate crosses the half way line

R – Field is widened to increase starting distance between attacker and chasing defender

R – Defender must wait for attacker’s second touch before chasing to tag them

Conditioned Game (10 mins)

Organization:

1. 30 x 20 yard area set up as shown

2. 12 players (3 teams of 4, 1 team resting) set up as shown

3. 1 ball (additional balls situated around the outside)

Instructions:

1. Each player is assigned a letter, A , B, C or D

2. Opposing players are paired with their opposite letter, and may only steal from this player

3. If defensive player steals from the wrong partner, a free kick is awarded

4. Goal is scored by dribbling through central goal at opposing end

5. If ball goes out, team restarts with a pass or dribble in

6. If goal is scored, conceding team restart with a dribble in from own end line

7. First team to score wins, with losing team switching with resting team

Coaching Points:

1. Controlled approach

2. Engage defender at speed by attacking front foot

3. Timing of move – just outside tackling radius

4. Body shape – low centre of gravity

5. Change of speed and direction

6. Head up accelerate away

Progressions:

1. P – Defensive players can steal from their nominated partner, plus one other

2. P – Increase to 40 x 30 yard area
