Everton Diamond Passing and Turning Progression (30 mins)

Everton Diamond Passing and Turning Progression

4 players with one ball get in a diamond shape (cones set out 20 yards deep and 12 yards wide) with a player on each cone

The first player passes to one of the wings, receives it back, then passes to the other wing, receives it back and switches the ball to the other side of the diamond.

Players on the wing should think about the cone as a defender and try to make space and receive the ball with the far foot from the passer. Encourage the use of both feet and movement as success increases.

Once the rhythm is there have the players on the edges work a turn as they receive, then work a turn back to where the ball came from and pass it back.

Increased difficulty can be calling out a turn for them to use, reinforcing using the far foot from the defender when dribbling and making sure to create space before receiving the ball with a proper check off. All of the details that have been worked in the turning drills should be applied here as well.

3 on 3 in the 18 (30 mins)

3 on 3 in the 18

3 teams of 3 are set. 2 teams play 3 vs 3 in the 18 with the 3rd team used as feeders on the outside.

Players on the outside feed the ball to a team to score. Players inside have unlimitted touches, players on the outside have 2 touches and can be used to keep possession.

If a pass is sent to the outside the player on the edge can use 1 touch to shoot and score for the team who fed them the ball. If the ball goes out of play or the keeper catches the ball, the defending team is now on offense. If the defense win the ball, they must pass the ball to the outside to change roles and become the attacking team.
