Warm--Up (20 mins)

Organization

1 ball/player. Players play within 5 m x 5 m grids, with central cone. Players execute core footwork moves at any of 5 cones within their work area. Moves can include a) inside/insides b) Toe Taps c) Insides/Toe Taps Combinations etc. Add advanced fast footwork moves to challenge players

Have players work for 1 minute low pace/1 minute 60-70% and 30 secs full-pace with 1 minute rest between each move

Coaching Points:

1) Ball under close control - 1 step away

2) Quick feet - on toes

3) Positive touches -with intent

4) Head up to see options

SAQ (10 mins)

Organization:

3 lines of players. Work on Speed, Agility and Quickness.

a) Begin by having players sprint to each cone and stop quickly

b) Progress to breaking right or left at 2nd and 3rd cone. After breaking right or left players will backpedle horizontal and then sprint forward to next cone

c) Add ball

Coaching Points:

1)Importance of 1st step – use back leg as spring

2)Pump Arms for power

3)Keep head steady

4)On toes - stay off heals

Progression:

Make it competetive with races

Technique (20 mins)

Organization:

Play begins with GK throwing ball to attacking player on sideline. The player receiving takes a 1st touch and joins in as a 3rd attacker. A player on the opposite wing also joins in to create a 4 v 2. Once an attempt is made on goal the opposite GK launches an attack via a sideline player to create an attack in the opposite diection

Coaching Points: (Defending)

1) Apply early pressure on ball

2) Correct body shape to dictate attacking movements

3) Angles/distances to ensure defenders can swing across quickly if ball transferred

4) Communication

5) Recovery runs/tracking of players

Progressions:

1) Progress to 5v3's

SSG (20 mins)

Organization:

SSG - 5v5. Players assisgned to 3 zones ie 2-2-1 formation. Team in possession can move between all 3 zones with no restrictions. Defending team must reatain team shape in assigned zones. In addition, if team scores a goal, it only counts if the scoring team successfuly defends their goal for 60 seconds.

Coaching Points:

1) Fast transition by all players between attacking /defending

2)Delay by defending team until players recover

3) Pressure/balance/support - defend in groups of three

4) Fast recovery by defenders

Game (20 mins)

Let them play! For quick transition, set the condition that once score must then attack the opposite goal
