Exercise 1

This is a drill for JJ as he's asked for some work on his decision making in these kind of scenarios. I'm guessing it would do any harm for the forwards to do some work on their decision making in the D either!

-Player A starts the drill by taking a shot.

-As soon as the shot is cleared/goes in player be dribbles along the baseline from cone 1 to cone 2.

-The goalkeeper shuffles across the goal to meet player B and makes a decision on coming out and

smothering or staying on the post to cover a shot.

-Player B can either shoot or pull the ball back to player A who has led to the penalty spot

Pointers

-Wait for the keeper to be set each time before the initial shot

-The distance of the cones may need adjusting to ensure keeper is always getting to the post at an appropriate time

-Vary which side the drill starts from

-Let JJ know he's free to adjust this if he wants to, it's just the best thing I could come up with for what he wants to work on.

Exercise 2

Working on recieving under pressure and retaining possession

-Player B leads to recieve a pass from A (doesn't have to be a straight post up can be lateral)

-B is trying to get the ball to D but can pass back to A is pressured on their initial recive and then re-lead (A cannot advance with the ball initially)

-Once ball is with D or C wins posession reset the exercise with C leading for D

-3 goes each for C&B then switch with A&D

-Keep score in pairs and press ups for loser

Pointers

-recieve within body space

-Initial movement after lateral or back away from defender DO NOT TURN THROUGH DEFENDERS BODY SPACE!

-Progress the drill by adding goals where A&D start and after initial recieve by B it becomes 2v2

Exercise 3

Focus on forward movement and retaining ball to bring midfield into the game

-Ball is transfered from A to B or vice versa to begin drill

-Forwards lead 1 to ball one holds height or leads wide

-A/B plays ball to forward and joins attack to make 3v2

-If attack get easy success add a recovery defender from behind initial transfer

Pointers

-Forwards moving to create space for each other

-Discourage 1v1 play on initial recieve bring midfield into the game to gain numercial advantage

Screen 4

Focus on off setting the centre half to create space for inside forwards and centre half to lead in to. Might be best if you explain this to Leights and ask him to lead this section so you can work with the forwards

-Centre half starts on opposite side to the ball to leave channel for inside forward to lead into

-As ball is transfered CH leads back the other way so if the full back can find them they pick up the ball moving out of any press the forwards put on. If they do not recieve the ball they have created space for the opposite inside forward to exploit.

-If the ball is transfered full width the CH can loop back round into the space they vacated and pick up the ball hopefully moving forward from the half back

-Practice with the ball starting on both sides

In a game CH would also have to be aware of inside forwards leading into the space and not go in there if it is already occupied. However inside forwards should also not be waiting in this space if they do not recieve a quick pass.

I'll go through this in detail for everyone on Sunday but so as long as the back unit understand it for know and we can look at linking in the inside forward movement later.

Exercise 5

If I've got the numbers right then you should be left with 9 whilst the back 5 learn the outletting pattern. If I'm wrong I'm sure you can adapt and create a goalscoring drill for 10 mins!

Focus is still recieving under pressure and also awareness of secondary leads

-3 teams of 3

-1 team attacks, 1 defends, 1 feeds

-Attackers lead to recieve from player A

-As soon as the ball is either in the goal or cleared out of the D player B's ball is live so an attacker who is in no position to infuence the inital play needs to be aware that they might be able to make a lead to recieve from B

-As soon as the ball from B is dead C is live and so on

-Play 9 balls total in order ABCABCABC then switch attacker defenders and feeders

Exercise 6

Chance for the back 5 to practice the outletting opposed and for forwards to work on press

The only stipulation is that the ball must enter at least 2 of the 3 channels between the half way and 25 before attacking the circle (i.e. there must be either a full width transfer so both half backs touch the ball or it is played into the centre half who finds a half back)

-Forwards to try and split the full backs

-Full backs find centre half moving out of the press to escape the split

-The forwards starting in the D may post up into space created by the centre half off setting but rembering they cannot then attack the circle unless the ball has already been in a wide channel.
