Passing & Player Rotation (10 mins)

Passing & Player Rotation

Set-up: 30 x 30 grid

At least one server is placed at the top and bottom of the grid (depending of numbers)

Teams of three - one ball per group

Progressions:

1) All three players must combine to work from one end to the other, but must always occupy different boxes. As soon as they play the pass they must find a free grid to move into (greys below)

2) Passes must be played to a free box for a team mate to run on to (white) or a player can leave or 'set' the ball in their own square for a team mate to run on to. The 'setter' however must also leave his square.

Coaching Points:

Can you and your team mates always occupy different grids?

Can you recognize the movement of your teammates and adjust your position accordingly?

Can you open your body to enable you to see both servers and both your teammates?

Scoring:

What team can keep the ball moving effectively and rotate for the longest?

During the scoring competition, ensure the tempo of the passing is adequate, rather than players playing slowly and safely to win the game.

1v1's (10 mins)

1v1 Defending with Technical Warm-up.

1) Have defenders start opposite side of goal and they have to defend the shot by rounding their runs, closing down quickly and forcing them wide. Important to close down but not dive in.

* Have other grid exactly the same but mirroring so players work on defending different angles.

Coaching points: Close down quickly, low stance and and round your run. What happens if you run straight at attacker? (goal is wide open)

*Teach what goal side means!

Defenders need to be tenacious

Small group defense: Pressure-Cover, communication

Finishing with Defenders (20 mins)

Finishing with Defenders: 1v1, 2v2 and 3v3 to goal

Organization- 6 defenders and 9-12 attackers. A- starts the attack by dribbling into the game and 1 defender come out to play 1v1 to goal. After play is over, player B dribbles in and 2 defenders comes

out to create 2v2 to goal. They can combine with players A or go alone to goal. After play is over, player C dribbles in to make a 3v3 as the 3rd defender joins the game to goal. Repeat excercise to

goal. After 5 min change defenders.

Coaching Points- Finishing, combinations, 1v1 skill to goal, movement off the ball, how do we receive the ball if we have space in front of us? Are we just looking to possess or to penetrate? can you create some space for yourself and get a shot off?

GRID-25x30

Progression:

1) Same but we throw aerial balls up for defenders to clear. Attackers in the grid, have to try to prevent defenders from winning it

2) Same but have trailing defender with 2 defenders staying in Grid.

Coaching Points: look to push up when ball goes backwards or attacker has back to goal.
