Warm Up (15 mins)

12-Players with a ball each in a 30yd x 20yd area;

1) Dribble around the area using either foot, utilizing all 10-surfaces. Incorporate 11+ stretching

2) Teach Beckenbauer, Cryuff & Scissor skills

3) Label each panel of the sq; on coaches command, players must dribble at speed to that panel and stop the ball on the line.

4) Work on how to SHIELD-OUT if under pressure from opponent or by a touchline

5) Partner up; one white with one navy (1-ball). Navy player jogs around, whilst white player dribbles behind acting as a shadow. Switch over every 1-min. Increase the difficulty by asking leader to change direction and speed at variable times.

Coaching Points

1) Body Position; stand upright with knees bent, head on a swivel, leg extended to make contact with the ball, knee over the ball & arms out for balance.

2) Contact on the Ball; soft-light touch, utilize all surfaces on BOTH feet, keep ball within 1-foot from your body & change direction of the ball regularly.

3) Agility; Be light and agile on your feet, get low into your center of gravity to change direction and react quickly to the movement of the ball and/or players/space around you.

Activity One (20 mins)

12-Players with a ball each in a 30yd x 20yd area with 1-yd gates;

Dribble around the area as before. Randomly do a skill or change of direction and go through a gate.

variables to increase pressure/intensity;

1) On coaches command, how many gates can you get through in 30-sec? Can you beat that score when do it again

2) Can not go through same gate twice. How long to get though all 8-gates?

3) You can now kick away teammates ball IF it is too far from their body WITHOUT losing control of yours.

Coaching Points

1) Are players taking soft touches on the ball & confident to dribble?

2) Are players playing with their heads up? Are they aware of teammates, spaces, gates, etc?

3) Does technique suffer with increased pressure & speed?

Activity Two (20 mins)

2 x 20yd x 15yd areas 3 v 3 to End Zones

1) Score by dribbling into the End Zone area and putting your foot on the ball

2) 3-min games. Rotate opponent after every game

3) IF score, turn and attack the other End Zone (IE, change direction)

Coaching Points

1) Involvement: Are players engaged in the game and involved in all aspects of the game? Especially in attack.

2) Decision Making: How is the players assessment of when to dribble and when to pass? Are there heads up when making these decisions?

3) Safety v Risk: Are players willing to take a risk for a chance to score?

Final Game (20 mins)

In a 45yd x 40yd area; Play 6 v 6 to age group appropriate size goals

Formation; 1 - 1 - 2 - 2

Emphasis in formation: Tight field with lots of opportunities to dribble in scoring positions.
