Technical / Tactical

Organization: Set up three grids 10x10 with it mirrrored on the opposite side. All six players on the outside should have a ball at their feet ready to connect a pass with their teammate on the inside.

Activity:

One player from each team should be matched up with the opposing player from the other team. Each player will take turns checking into their teammate who has the ball. The ball will be played in (whoever plays the ball in must provide their teammate with information on what to do) turn, man on, play back. Defenders will start out only in shaddow play until the players on the inside feel comfotable enough with pressure from behind. Make sure everyone rotates facing up against different players from the other team.

Coaching Point:

1. Information needs to be passed to player receiving the ball.

2. When the defender is lose try to turn if you can.

3. When a defender is touch tight the ball should be held up having good positioning (back to goal) and then a ball can be played back to the place where it cam from.

4. Play the way you face when under pressure.

Organization: The outside perimeter of the grid should be 25LX20W. Each team should have two goals to attack and two goals to defend.

Activity:

The players who are positioned on the line with the goals they are attacking check into the ball receiving a ball from their teammates who have the group of soccer balls. As soon as the forward (checking player) is played the ball the defender can leave to apply pressure on the attacking forward. As soon as the ball is played in the game is live. If the defender steals the ball he/she is allowed to attack their goals. Players on both teams will rotate clockwise. Every player should play in each position throughout this drill.

Progression: Now the player who play the first pass in can join the play making a 2v1 situation against the one defender. If the defender wins the ball a teammate from his/her team can join making it a 2v2.

Coaching Points:

1. Provide the checking player with information on what to do.

2. When under pressure make sure the ball is close to your feet and you are balanced between the ball and the defender.

3. Take what the defender gives you.

4. Try to face up the defender and be confident in your decision to go with pace or slow the play down.

Organization: Use the same size grid as the previous drill but remove on the goals and add a middle channel 6 yards in length.

Activity:

On each side of the center channel the teams will have a 2v1 for the goal they are defending and a 1v2 for the goal they are attacking. As the defenders for the attacking team have the ball the forward is allowed to work his/her way back into the channel to receive a ball from one of the two defenders. The next pass must be played back to one defender who then attacks the two defenders making a 2v2 situation. If the forward stays out of the channel a pass can be made to him/her at any point. Try to keep the defenders honest and mix up the attacking mentalities.

Coaching Points:

1. Creative movement from the forward as the picture changes when the ball moves.

2. Always check your shoulder.

3. Be aggressive when in your attacking half. Understand when you can take chances to go 1v2 or when it is best to create a 2v2 situation.

Organization: Full sided game depending on the number of players you have at training.

Activity:

Make sure the players are positioned in a formation that relates back to the theme of the training. We are trying to  create both pressure from behind as well as recognizing when to turn and when we should keep it and play back.

Coaching Points:

1. Same points as early drills in the training. Stick with the same topic and how it can relate back to what the team/players are working on.
