U8's 1V1 (15 mins)

Organisation:

Create one or two 20 x 10 grids as shown above contingent on player numbers

Coach plays ball into area and the first two players in the line try to be first to the ball. The player who gains possession attempts to unbalance defender and dribble over the endline. The opponent attempts to dispossess and do the same.

After a few rounds keep score for each team

Coaching points:

-Reaction time, running mechanics, sprint and be first to the ball.

When attacking:

-Touches get smaller as player approaches defender.

-Distance of execution should be 2 yds from defender

-Change of direction- Use a Coerver manipulation to beat/unbalance defender-Be CREATIVE!

-Change of speed - Accelerate away from defender

-Once beyond defender take your next touch to cut off recovery run of defender.

U8's 1V1 Progression (15 mins)

Organisation

Same as previous but place 1 ball at central pylon at the side of the area..

On Coaches command the players dribble their ball to central pylon and stop their ball. They then dribble the other ball back to the starting point. The 1st player to perform the above becomes the attacker and receives the ball from the coach and the other player becomes the defender. The attacker looks to try and dribble between one of the two gates set on the endline
