Warm-up/Ball Mastery (15 mins)

Organization:

25 yard diameter circle

1 ball per player

Instructions:

On Arrival: 1 bounce, 1 juggle any surface

1.) Players practice messi touches on "switch" they switch balls with their partner

2.) While dribbling players practice various skills learned (feint, double feint, scissors, double scissors)

3.) partner up, 1 with the ball and the other gets a point if they can steal the ball

Interval various dynamic and static stretches

Coaching Points:

Ball control

Head up

Communication

Coordination/Balance

Small touches

Keep body between ball and partner

Progressions:

Play one round of knockout

Main Theme Intro (10 mins)

Organization:

30x20. Open space.

4 balls on top of cones

Ball in middle is equidistant from sidlines and spread apart

Instructions:

Players work in pairs trying to knock the ball off the cone, 1 player can go at a time, alternating turns

Each time they knock the ball off they get a point

After knocking off the ball, the ball is replaced on the cone by the player who knocked it off

Coaching Points:

Observe Target (head up)

Use inside of foot

Non kicking foot placed to side, slightly behind the ball

non kicking foot pointed at target

Body weight forward chest and knee over the ball at contact

Follow through

Progressions:

P- Increase distance of pass to cone

R- Decrease distance of pass to cone

Two cones as gate

Two outside cones per gate

Two or Three groups

Multiple balls with A players

Instructions:

Player A runs to gate and passes to player B, continues run and joins back of B line. Player B repeats joining the back of A line. Add extra channels based on number of players.

Coaching Points:

Checking to ball

Checking sholder

Prepared to receive ball - on toes, anticipating

First touch in direction of movement

Shield if necessary

Weight of pass

Accuracy of pass

Head up

Ankle locked, toe up

Supporting foot

Moving - ball in front of player

Stationary - ball to player

Progressions:

P/R - Increase/Decrease distance for the pass

P/R - Increase/Decrease gap between gate

P - Increase speed

P - Player passes ball from stationary position, opposite player runs to gate to receive, turns in between gate and outside cone, passes to player on own side and runs to back of own line.

P - Player with ball dribbles around wide cones instead of gate prior to passing.

P - Add competition. First group to get to 10/15 passes per player wins.

Instructions:

A passes to B

C starts in the field an arm's length behind B at the yellow gate, C is live to defend once the ball has touched B's foot.

Point every time B dribbles through the gates

Coaching Points:

Check over shoulder

Use arm to feel for pressure

Prepared to receive ball - on toes, anticipating

Turn away from pressure

Use inside of foot to receive and turn

Keep body between ball and defender

Big touch into space
