Footwork Warm Up

Organization: 10x10 Square

Instructions: Keep Away 3v1/4v1...Get to as many passes as possible

Coaching Points:

1 - Alert and Active (Balls of Feet)

2 - Connect with Players (Eye Contact/Communicate)

3 - Create and angle

4 - Receive on Back Foot

5 - Foot combination (Inside/inside same foot or Inside Inside opposite foot)

6 - Decide where to pass (dependant on attackers run)

7 - Stay Connected after pass

Organization:

Penalty area

1 goalkeeper, 1 player used to deflect the service, 2 forwards to follow up on shots and1 server, set up as shown

6 balls

Instructions:

The goalkeeper starts in the goal

One player starts on the penalty spot on their knees

The server volleys the ball at the player on the penalty spot who looks to deflect the ball towards the goal or move out of the way

The goalkeeper must react to save the ball

The two players either side act as forwards and follow up on any shot that is not deflected to a safe area

Coaching Points:

Position in front of the ball

Visual contact with the ball

Quick reactions depending on the ball’s trajectory

Decision making to hold or deflect the ball

Service:

The server volleys the ball from the ‘D’ head height towards the player on the penalty spot. Remember to strike the pass firmly so give the goalkeeper less time to react

Instructions:

Goalkeeper receives shots from each server in order of left to right

Repeat twice for a total of eight shots

Coaching Points:

Move quickly in line with the ball

Move down the ball line to close the angle

Get ‘set’ as the server strikes the ball

Correct diving/handling technique

Catch, parry or deflect

Recover quickly

Service:

From ground

Volley

Half Volley

P – Servers move the ball either side of the marker to change the angle of shot

P – Servers can pass to other servers to change the angle of the shot

Scoring Game

Organization:

Penalty area set up as shown

5 goalkeepers set up as shown

4 balls (more if possible to help create a flow)

Instructions:

Goalkeepers on outside take turns shooting on the goal

If the goalkeeper in the goal saves the ball or the ball goes wide then the goalkeeper in goal gets a point

If the goalkeeper concedes a goal, then the goalkeeper who shot the ball replaces them

Goalkeeper with the most consecutive points wins

Goalkeepers who are shooting can follow up any shots parried within the area

Coaching Points:

Move quickly in line with the ball

Move down the ball line to close the angle

Get ‘set’ as the server strikes the ball

Correct diving/handling technique

Catch, parry or deflect

Recover quickly

Organization:

6 goalkeepers set up as shown

Instructions:

GK1 and GK2 take it in turns to shoot on each others goal

Once the GK strikes the ball they must recover quickly into position ready for the other GK’s shot

The winner is the GK that saves the most shots

Coaching Points:

Move quickly in line with the ball

Move down the ball line to close the angle

Get ‘set’ as the server strikes the ball

Correct diving/handling technique

Catch, parry or deflect

Recover quickly

Service:

From ground

P – GK’s that are resting can follow up any rebounds
