Juggling Warm-up (10 mins)

Organization:

Players in Pairs

One Ball

One Net/Line

Instructions:

- Players play soccer tennis.

- Players get 3 touches maximum and 1 bounce (2 bounces for younger or less experienced).

- If the player takes the ball out of the air before any bounce, they are not allowed any bounce(s).

Coaching Points:

- Use of both feet and multiple surfaces

- Can they use other parts of their body to control and set up their play (head, chest, thigh, etc.)

- Weight of shot

- Footwork/movement to anticipate the shot

Main Theme (10 mins)

Organization:

30x40 yard area

Field marked off as above

12 players

Groups of 3 with one ball per group

Instructions:

- Players inside the area look to receive a ball from a teammate.

- Before receiving the ball, player must make eye contact and communicate with their passing player, take their first touch away from pressure to dribble out/around a cone on the outside and come back into the area.

- Player on ball must now look to find 3rd teammate (3rd man runner).

- Passers must look to disguise pass and use all parts of the foot (outside, inside, laces, etc.).

- How creative can you be with runs (overlaps, give/go, etc.) and passes (no look, driven, etc.)?

Coaching Points:

- Head up to make eye contact with receiver

- Shape of body to get/disguise pass

- Select proper surface to receive the ball (inside)

- Run of 3rd player to provide angle of support

Main Theme II (15 mins)

Organization:

20x30 yard area

6 players(2 attackers,2 defenders,2 targets)

Set up multiple fields as needed

Instructions:

- Teams score by scoring into either of the goals.

- Once goal is scored, team tries to work the ball back to the other goal ("make it/take it").

- The target players must stay wide, have 3 touch maximum to play back to team that played them the ball.

- If the ball leaves the area then the targets start the game with a kick in to opposite team.

- Play for 2 minutes the switch target players.

Coaching Points:

- Get in line with the ball

- Surface of foot selection to play and receive pass

- Directions of touch to enable next action

- 3rd man runner

- Speed of play

Conditioned Game (20 mins)

Organization:

- 3 equal teams

- Half field or double 18 depending on numbers

- Width of the 18. 3v3 (can go 4v4/5v5, adjust field dimensions)

- Bumpers beside the goals; additional players from 3rd team can be neutrals in the field

- Bumpers have touch restriction; neutrals do not have touch restriction

Instructions:

- Play 5v5 (or whatever numbers).

- Look to penetrate and exploit open spaces.

- Regular match rules.

- Play 5 min and then switch teams, winner stays on.

Coaching Points:

- Can we penetrate quickly (dribble or pass); if not possess

- Passing weight/accuracy

- Movement to receive, angle of your runs

- Deception

- Speed of play

Progressions:

- Score off pass from bumper must be a volley, half-volley or header.

- Both teams must finish 1 time.

- Bumpers have 1 touch.

Free Play (15 mins)

Organization:

7v7

Instructions:

- Players split up into 4 teams and play a round robin tournament where all teams play.

Coaching Points:

- 3 Lines of attack, Defender, Midfield, Striker (rotate players)

- Create as much space for player in possession

- Try to create a triangle at all to give good angle of support.

- Look to gaps to attack using Messi touches

- First thought is to go forward then if nothing is on, play back to start again.
